Here is a link to a pattern that several people have already used. I have this pattern coming to me in the next few days too, so I'll try it and give a review soon.

P.S. This pattern is for ladies, HOWEVER if you reverse the zipper, it will work for a man's pattern too.

Somewhere in an Officer's thread I posted a question about where to obtain the metal boxes that were on the Officer's belt.....someone graciously responded....I even ordered them years ago...but never have used them....
Now I am trying to find that source again as it appears that some of the Rebel Fleet Troopers had a similar metal box on their belts.
and.....now I can't find where the post and link is...does anyone else remember that...or ...have I again slipped into senility...

The closest that I could find are the travel cigarette cases. You can find them on eBay for pretty cheap compared to buying direct. Unfortunately, these don't come in silver, but you could possibly sand off the coloring or paint them up.Schph Gochi wrote:Somewhere in an Officer's thread I posted a question about where to obtain the metal boxes that were on the Officer's belt.....someone graciously responded....I even ordered them years ago...but never have used them....

No....but they are darn close....and the dimensions on the two that I have are 4 3/4 tall by 2 1/2" wide by 1" deep....the lip of the lid is 1/2" of that 1" depth....with a little screw hole at the top and bottom...
this is what it looks like:

I recently completed my new Imperial Officer's uniform jacket using a combination of the discontinued Simplicity Civil War uniform pattern, #7274 and the McCall's Civil War uniform Pattern M4745.
I used the 2 piece sleeves and the princess seams from the back of the McCall's. Those are most like what the screen used costumes have.
If you can't find a copy of the Simplicity pattern, and can not redraft it using my notes, I would try a combination of using the front of view B with the back & length of
view A from McCall's M4745.
The front then needs to be further modified as I have described for the
Simplicity pattern.
I would try to figure out a way to make it without the vents in the lower
part of the back. Perhaps this could be done best by re-drafting out the
entire waist seam and making those fronts and backs all one piece.
The shoulder seams would also need to come forward.

That's what I have used. I LOVE how the best wool looks & feels but I couldn't afford the $20 per yard price tag on that ------ especially while I am still experimenting to re-draft the perfect pattern to fit me personally.GBNICK wrote:When it comes to fabric i couldnt find wool garbadine so im using a black fabric that they make suits from is this ok
I still have a few "I wish I wouldas" on this last uniform coat I made for myself. Until I am confident have the pattern perfect for me and that I will be able to execute it perfectly, I'm going to wait on the best of the best fabric.
I'm sure that I posted this suggestion back at the beginning of this thread ----- DO MAKE A MUSLIN MOCK-UP of the coat. (and the trousers too) There are so many alterations from the patterns to the actual body that you won't be aware of until you actually start putting the pieces together.

There are instructions in the suitability pattern (Johdpurs) to make them for men!psykojedi7956 wrote:Any news on this pattern (i.e. has it come yetTKvanB wrote:I picked up the notions (50% off today) I will need to build these. Now I gotta wait for the pattern in the mail.) I understand it's a women's pattern (it REALLY doesn't matter in my mind since the coat and belt covers the zipper ANYWAY) but I am starting to think of a backup outfit so I can change things up and not be the same every troop op.
Basically all you need to do is reverse "Right" and "left" in the zipper directions. It's very easy. I made both of the pairs of johdpurs (for me) with the "men's" style zipper.
I'd suggest making a muslin mock-up in any case because the pattern is presented to accomodate a more ample female shape. In a mock-up, you'll be able to try it on you to see whether and where it is too ample and make some adjustments from there. (decrease the side flares for less volume) The length of the entire garment also needs to be adjusted to the specific body so you have the back of the knee seams in the right place and the taper of the side flares just right.
You NEED to have your boots available to try on with the johdpurs to get this just right. I made the calves as tightly fitting as possible on me to completely eliminate any bulk of excess fabric that I was trying to shove into my riding boots. My boots slide right on & off -- even with my sausage legs

I also increased the depth of the pockets by about 3" - 4" and I completely set in the belt loops, rather than sewing the tops down to the waist band afterwards. It looks pristine that way.
I also added 1" wide elastic stirrups at the ankles.
Did I say it before? ---- this pattern turned out SPECTACULAR!
I reccommend it highly.
