The morning started off briskly as we gathered in the parking lot at 7:15am and got suited up in the kitchen of the park after having met with one of the organizers. We were met with "ooo's" and "ahhhs" by excited kids and excited parents when we exited our the changing room. Lots of kids and families were happy to see us, get some great photos with Darth Maul, Chewbacca, Stormtroopers, a Tusken Raider, and Darth Vader. Maul and Chewiee stole the show, that's for sure! Kids were clamoring for a Chewiee trading card and sought out other cards from the rest of the crew.
It was finally time for the race to start, and they handed Vader the starter's pistol. A beautiful National anthem was sung by a young girl, the racers were instructed to take their mark, and the race began. 18 minutes later, it was over for one runner. Ah well, it was a nice 18 minute break for us. lol
We greeted runners as they came running/plodding in; in between waves of runners returning and after a few more last-minute photos, we suited down around 9:30 and some left for the next event that day at Cantigny. Thank you all for coming and making this a truly fantastic start to the day!
