Southern Illinois gal starting a Jawa for Approval
Hello my name is Kari and i live in Mt Vernon, IL. (One hour east of St Louis) I had my first 501st Legion experience this past weekend and fell in love. I asked a mutual friend of my sister to participate on a float I was building for our local parade. The theme was "Superheroes get creative" and being a Star Wars fan I wanted to incorporate that theme somehow. When I found out how many people Jon (my sister's friend &now my friend) was bringing I decided to create an entire Star Wars float for the 501st that were going to participate. Jabba the Hut and Jon's Hans Solo in Carbonite were on the float and the town went CRAZY! After researching all the phenomenal things the Midwest Garrison and the 501st do for charity. ..I fell in love and so badly want to be a part of this great group! I'm wanting to build a Jawa. I love this character probably because they are like me. ...I am hyper, short (5foot 1) and collect junk to resell.
I am needing some help getting started. I found the forum for jawa http://www.kraytclan.com but was wearing to know if anyone in this garrison has made a Jawa. I saw one on the member roster I was wanting to know where the fabric was purchased and the colors you used to dye it so if we are ever together at a troop (if I get approved) my fabric &colors will be correct. Thank you for all of your help!

Welcome,
The Krayt Clan is indeed the place to be!
We have the cutest 4 year old Jawa of all time here!
Sakic Jade is who did my favorite! But there are a lot of awesome costumes. At the detachment sight.
Welcome
Kim

I have one that I had been working on. The material for the robes is monks cloth, which you can get at Joann fabrics. The dye is Rit dark brown and sunset orange.

Thank you so much for the warm welcome and the help! I'm new to costume building (except halloween costumes for my kids) so this is a fantastic but intimidating new adventure. Looking forward to making myJawa with no time limits and possibly and hopefully becoming accepted into the 501st and troop, troop, troop!

Re: Southern Illinois gal starting a Jawa for Approval
I have built a Jawa for my son and the monks cloth I used was actually purchased at Wal Mart. It's a fun costume to make and the troops I have brought my son along on, he gets a ton of attention. People love them Jawas. I know there are several others who have built one as well so keep us all posted, we're here to help.

Re: Southern Illinois gal starting a Jawa for Approval
Welcome! Lots of us have done Jawas! Mostly for our kids as a way to bring them out with us to events. If you're handy with a sewing machine you'll make a pretty easy go of it. I've done one for my daughter and it didn't take too long at all.

Re: Southern Illinois gal starting a Jawa for Approval
Thank you for the help everyone! I thought I would start with a Jawa(easy build so I can get started with the 501st) then start a Storm Trooper build and an Ewok. I know the Storm Trooper will take a while and I would love to start trooping in the mean time to meet others, help charities and to see in person others Storm Troopers builds first hand.

PSSST >.> <.< you will scare the biker scouts saying things like EwokKariCanary wrote:Thank you for the help everyone! But seriously, Ewoks are a Rebel Legion costume, and Jawas are accepted as both 501st and Rebel Legion. If you are looking for more info to that route, send me a PM

No worries. The Ewok is for my son for next year's parade. Not me.

Re: Southern Illinois gal starting a Jawa for Approval
Thanks for checking up on me! I actually am rebuilding my mask. I decided to use a full face hockey airsoft mask. It seems to cover better, and circulate air a lot better as well. Now all I have left is to install the eye components and dye my fabric and I should be wrapping things up. The 14 inches of snow we got slowed the process WAY down. Our town only has Wal-Mart. So I have to drive an hour for parts.

Jawas, Jawas, Jawas... Great costume choice since they do look good walking next to a sandtrooper. Good luck with your build..

Utinni!
For uploading them here, your best bet would be to upload them to a photo hosting site like Photobucket or Flickr and then use the code before and after the link to make them visible. Fingers crossed for a new Denizen of the Empire!

Re: Southern Illinois gal starting a Jawa for Approval
Just a quick update, I was approved yesterday morning for the Rebel Legion!!!!
Now just waiting to hear from the 501st!
I have my first official Troop tomorrow in Evansville Indiana at the Icemen Hockey game Star Wars Night. The Mos Espa base invited me over. So excited!

Making my wife a jawa costume too. Went a different route for the mask part tho. Can't wait to see your build!
Icemen Star Wars night is a fun troop. I've done it a couple times now and it is a lot of fun. Have a great time!
