New member here in Illinois...

Post by SHortTrooper »

:D
Hello, I am a new member and I am trying to find out where I can get StormTrooper Armor for myself...One thing I will say up front is that I am very short....VERY SHORT!

I saw on the intro to the website that some members make their own costumes from what they can find...What does that mean?

What CAN and CAN'T the costumes be made from...and also I have restricted finances..

I am in the process of getting a StormTrooper helmet but I am at a loss as to how to make my own armor. I am partial disabled and it is hard for me to use my hands at times. (I am good at sewing, tho! ) Do any of you know where I can get small armor? I am 5 feet 1 inch tall.

Thanks!

Welcome to the board. I am not sure about where you can get a smaller set of armor. You might just have to get a regular set of armor and modify it to your size. If you go to Ebay and search fore "stormtrooper armor" you will get a general idea of how much they can cost.

TKvanB IF that is you in the picture and being that short then I know there is a God in Heaven that I can be a StormTrooper too!!! :D

My kids have already been joking about "Aren't you a little short for a StormTrooper?" line.....

I do have a helmet that I am purchasing, but I need to know what you wear underneath, and what besides the vacuformed armor can I use to make armor...... that I can take a shot at getting a costume?

I may just have to save up to get some off ebay but it may take me years to do it!

We all had to wait a long time and save up money for our costumes, I wish there were a shortcut. I have my armor and I still can't afford it much. Little things that need to be fixed. Just be prepared to pay more than just the cost of buying the armor.

FYI What Trooper Bucket are you looking to buy??? The FX will look very very big on you. I would try and look for a AP or a RT-mod. The AP and RT are around 15% smaller then the FX. I am only around 5'7 and use the RT.

I am on the right side.

at 5'1 you will run into probs with not being able to move your head at all or very little. check around for a RT bucket it will suit you much better. also if you can it will cost you more but see about getting the AP or RT it fits better on guys aroudn our size.

good luck

Rob (2280) is correct about the AP helmet sizing would be much more in proportion with a smaller person. ......someday....someday.....I'll get an AP helmet too. I have the standard FX helmet, and yes, it does make me bobble-headed. Although, it's kind of cute. Everyone hugs me
:grouphug:
You're right about TK0.5 in my holster -- that was at a "No Blasters!" event. It's the perfect place for him to ride. :D

Welcome!
You could, in theory (and yeah, I'm partial) go with scout armor. The bits are smaller all around and easier to trim down to custom size...mainly because there are a lot less of them ;) The buckets are smaller, too, unless you were to go out of your way to find a large sized one.

WElcome to the forums!!

My hubby originally used a ballet leotard for the undersuit. :rotflmao: You should have seen the looks on the clerks faces when he came in their dainty lil shop, LOL!
But he bought another one at a scuba shop. It is a liner that goes underneath the wetsuit, I believe. Don't go crazy with money on one...his already has started piling and running where the armor has rubbed against it.

Once you are done, you'll have to start on costumes for your kids :D

What is an "AP" and an "RT" sized helmet?

The one I am getting is a Rubies I think and I hope it isn't too big.......I won it on Ebay and the person does have a policy to have a return if it doesent fit right.

I thought about a small helmet that I think was a childs size but I think that might be too small.

BTW, your armor and costumes look nice!!!

First of all, welcome to the Midwest Garrison!!! :D

I'm sure someone will send you a PM with AP and RT info. As for the Rubies helmet . . . return it . . . or if it's already on its way to you, ask the seller if you can refuse delivery and get a refund. Those helmets won't be acceptable if you want to get into the 501st. That is your plan, right?

I'll send you a PM . . . not about AP and RT info . . . I don't have that, so if someone else could shoot ShortTrooper a PM with that. . . . :)

Thank you for the informatiopn!!!!!

I'll have to check out a scuba shop here in my town and see what they have.... or the Ballet shop at Jeannes School of Dance.

My two girls are 16 and 13. My 16 year old was mortified when I told her I was making some Star Wars costumes... I had made some Star Trek costumes and the 16 year old was rolling her eyes at me....."MOM!! Why are you wearing that in PUBLIC! My friends will think your nuts!!!" THis nut got to do some Charity work for William Shatner and I have a pic of me with Bill in the Uniform I made! The 13 year old thought it was great and She wore a Captain Jack costume for Halloween.....

THe Star Wars costumes are a bit more of a challenge to make than the Star Trek ones. I have won a few original costume patterns on Ebay of the Simplicity and McCalls from the 70's and the 80's. Both are in good condition and only one has been cut. I am going to make a Jawa costume and the Princes Leia ones. I do Have a Darth Vader costume from scratch and not a pattern nearly done but I am waiting for some one who volunteered to make me some shoulder armor to send it back to me! Even tho I am disabled, my hands can function enough to do cutting and sewing. Cutting with scissors is a challenge but it can be done! My children and I all have the same disability, and doing hands on stuff is good therapy and slows the atrophying in our hands and upper arms.

BTW, I saw one of the charities you donate to is Childrens Memorial Hospital in Chicago. That is where my 13 year old goes for her treatment for her hand, feet and leg therapies and Epilepsy treatments. That hospital did things that no other ones have done for us and we have made great leaps in her (and my ) diagnosis and treatment .(THe neuropothy we have is hereditary, myself and my 16 year old have it also.) We give donations to the hospital when we can by buying my youngest small gifts and toys int he Gift shop after she's had some treatments or (shudder) a long blood draw....:(

Thank you all for the information and I can see I am going to get a lot of help on here for this costume!

Yes I would like to be in the 501st and I will check out the helmet make and see if it is a Rubies. I'll ask him if he will cancel the order and I won't be out anything. He is holding it for me when I get the last of t he money I need for it. I only need $16.oo more of the $61 for it. I've been saving my change and using my birthday money and recycled can money for it....I was thinking, I had read the post earlier about being a Biker Scout? THey do look like they have a smaller build and maybe I can do that one? But how much more are the helmets?

P.S. I'll be gone most of the day after this last post, as my daughter has 1 Dr appointment and one land therapy and hand therapy today and I won't be back till later this afternoon and then I can post more.

Thanks for the information.

Spending the day at the docs really stinks. I'm glad you can be there for her! I had to laugh when I had an Occupational Therapist tell me some exercises I should do at home...cut, play with dough, dishes, laundry...

Glad to see at least one of your kids is into costuming. Perhaps the older one will come around (especially if a boyfriend thinks Star Wars is cool, LOL!).

Hah, just tell your 16 year old that there are 18/19 year old people walking around in stormtrooper armor. And if she doesn't think volunteering and charity work is a good cause then, hmm I dunno.

Cujo, you have to remember for most teens, anything that their parents do is uncool  I remember being mortified when my dad had an outfit on once that clashed. Nevermind that he had just worked a full day and skipped supper to coach the 3 of us in seperate baseball leagues all in one night.

Luckily, parents get cooler and smarter as we age

ST, welcome aboard! It might be worthwhile to come out to an event near you and actually meet and talk to some of the members. Much easier than trying to describe stuff in text :)

It'll also give you the chance to see the armor in real life and up close.

Some of my 14-year-old daughter's friends (who are boys) practically think she is a of sci/fi goddess when they find out about some of the things she has done. It's difficult to get her into wearing a costume right now, because she must be going through that period in her developement when this "isn't quite cool enough to admit liking." I went through that too when I was her age. (in 1977) It only lasted a few months at most. Then I was back to being a "regular nerd." Some movie came out that year too as I recall  All that outward attitude  can be a pretty good show, but report cards don't lie. When you come home with straight "A's" in all of you AP classes, you can't hide your 'inner nerd' for too long.
