Aspiring trooper from Chicago

Post by SantinoCasas »

Hello everyone!

Where to even begin? First and foremost I really want to thank the 501st for everything you do. I've had the privilege of meeting some of you at cons and events over the years and I have to say that the Legion is a class act through and through.

Now, down to business. As stated in the title, I am from Chicago and would love to join the ranks of the finest in the Empire. I'm 24 years old, an investment banker by day, a cosplayer, musician, lover of everything in the geek world, and like everyone here; a huge Star Wars fan. I do have experience building costumes but have never attempted anything Star Wars related. The plan is to either build/purchase a Kylo Ren or First Order Stormtrooper armor.

I know that both of these characters have yet to officially be released and that the jury is still out on what all the requirements will be for being accepted into the 501st. I've been doing a lot of research and know that Anovos will be releasing both of these characters. I also understand that these would be approved but I think it's a good start and I could make the necessary modifications from there. Or I can go the other route and start piecing these costumes together on my own. I've joined the Sith Legion Detachment and the First Imperial Stormtrooper Detachment which has been extremely helpful so far. From the research I've been doing on the SLD, I know it's still up in the air as to whether or not Kylo Ren is indeed a Sith Lord or even a true Sith at all. Many of the members there have stated that he may be placed in The Flagship Eclipse Detachment. So I will join that detachment as well to see what I can find.

Also, if I decide to go the route of Kylo Ren I understand that he would be considered a "face" character and that may limit the events that I'm able to troop in. So this is something I will also have to consider before committing to his build. As I start to put something together, I will be sure to start a WIP thread to keep everyone updated.

I'm sorry this was so long-winded! I just want to show that I am serious about this and doing the necessary research to have my outfit up to par with everyone elses. If anyone has anything they'd like to ask of me, please feel free. I look forward to getting to know each and every one of you on this exciting journey!

Best,

Santino A. Casas

Welcome to the MWG Santino! We are a great group of people in this Garrison and can help you with fullfilling your costuming goals. Now to figure out what costumes you really want to build first in order to become an approved legion member.
I am one of three TFA TROOPERS in this garrison that completed our builds to wear at Celebration Anaheim. Those kits will only be available to Legion members until after the movie premieres. Then they will be available to the public. As for Kylo Ren, there are so many members who are already researching this build.
You are probably better off building anything that will get you approved for Legion status right now. A ANH TK or an Imperial Officer..,etc.,etc.

Thanks so much, TK265! Looking forward to being a part of the group. It's an honor talking to you! I saw the videos of you guys at Celebration and you all looked amazing in your TFA armor. Thanks for the heads up. I should probably focus elsewhere until I join the Legion. I know they also do the Imperial Officer uniforms as well so I'll look into those. Is there a lot of additional work that needs to be done to them to have them approved?

I figured Kylo Ren was still in the research stage for everyone. I'll continue putting it together and hopefully have it approved later on this year or next as my second outfit.
