New Member Introduction
Having been a lover of Star wars since about 10, I have often wanted to find a group of like minded fans. When I discovered the 501st, initially through hearing about the charity work, I decided to look into it. Having found out there is a garrison in the Midwest, I am planning on making the armor and other components to join the illustrious Vader's Fist.
A bit about myself, I am college student working on my Masters in History. I only just moved to Illinois 2 years ago from Wisconsin where I lived a majority of my life. I am in a state of transition looking for a place to begin a career and establish roots. Thus my project of building a suit for the 501st is planned to take a year until completion when I expect to submit it. I am looking at building a TD Heavy Weapons or TK ESB suit. having never done a build like this before It is going to be an experience so any insights would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the MWG forums, Xak! If you're interested on building a TD or a TK, then you'll definitely want to also join the appropriate 501st Legion Detachment site for both the sandtroopers and for the stormtroopers. There's a lot of crossover in the techniques used to build their armor (as you might imagine), though there are many differences that you might not be aware of. More than just some dirt and a backpack!
Research is going to be your first step, no matter which uniform you go with. Start at the detachment sites, and then follow the guidance they can offer you.
Sandtroopers: http://www.mepd.net
Stormtroopers: http://www.whitearmor.net
Good luck with your quest, and if we can lend any local hands-on help, be sure to let us know!

welcome xak ,
we have a few college aged folks in the build process as we speak .. welcome to the mwg ,, and to illinois
what part of the state will you be settling down in , or going to school at ?
we have members all over the state .. you may have some troopers in your area ?
we also have armor parties every now and again also .... start with the research as fang advised ...
read as much as you can .. on and about whichever path you choose ,,, sandy - or stormie ~~ knowledge is power ....
once youve figured out what you want to do ,,, the next step is finding a maker of the suit that best works for you ,,, size, style, cost etc...
there are many ,many options ... along with your size and build ... to consider ...
there are many a tk pro on these boards .. any question can be answered ... just ask ... nothing is silly or dumb .
so dont be afraid to ask ``what you really want to know`` ...
someone will have your answer
and again .... welcome ..
this is an amazing group of like-minded people .. who will help you any way they can you only need ask of them

Re: New Member Introduction
Welcome
I just recently built (with help ) a TK and became a member. Fleetfang gave you the 2 wealths of knowledge with those links. I pretty much found everything I needed with just a lot of research, and asking questions.
Good luck on whichever you choose...for now...if your like me (and several others here) you'll be looking at many other costumes down the road

Welcome aboard! I'm a fan of the TD. It's a lot of fun dirtying it up. If anything, you can always start TK, then if the armor gets too scuffed, you can just do the mods to make it TD later. We're here to help with any questions.

Oh, and Xak, in case you didn't spot it, there's a good set of general advice and guidelines in a "sticky" post at the top of the Welcome Mat forum: http://www.midwestgarrison.com/forum/vi ... 61&t=13034
The stuff there is good to keep in mind no matter what character you're going for.

Re: New Member Introduction
I will transfering back to IL for advancement and oppertunity in my military career path...plus I am also a history major and joined a few years ago outta highschool with a suit. Depending where you go to school I would love to help another TK out. I've been out of the game for far too long!
Many bothans died to bring you this post...the tearing of ligaments and almost the loss of a TK's finger...

Re: New Member Introduction
Thanks for all of the support. currently I am in Macomb, IL and am looking for jobs all over. I would prefer to stay in either IL or WI but am willing to move. I am leaning more towards TK class because it a good starting build for one starting out.
