Hey guys! i'm sort of new here...

Post by TheSixHunter »

me and my dad are huge star wars fans and we always wanted to get a stormtrooper suit, so we have been looking around and in youtube we found a lot of work that you guys did and we would just like to saay that your guys are awesome! I really miss the old star wars days when i was a kid, star wars was like the biggest thing to me and my cousins. When i saw your marching videos and such it felt like it was 2005 again when star wars revenge of the sith was just released. You guys take star wars beyond the movies. So thank you! Anyway a little about myself...my name is Nicolas, my family calls me Nico, at school they call me Nick. I just turned 16 a month ago, I love vidoe games, movies, and music, specifically Nirvana! I was born in Argentina, and can speak three languages, english, spanish, and i am currently working on italian. My favorite star wars film i would probably say it was episode IV. How did i get this username? Well, when i was eleven or twelve, my favorite playstation 2 games were the Star Wars Battlefront series, in which I named my pofile hunter, because i thought jango fett and boba fett were really cool 8) Then when i bought my playstation 3 in 2006 i was really hyped up for rainbow six vegas, so i combined them and got TheSixHunter, although my current playstation game is GamingLegacy. And if i ever lose someweight, i get a stormtrooper suit, which if you have any suggestions please tell me, and i turn 18 i would love to join you guys sometime! :D

Welcome, and lovin' the enthusiam! I am the same way, just a few years older it sounds...I am joining next year when I turn 18, right now I am nearing completion of my Stormtrooper suit, and also just finished a Rebel Fleet trooper costume.

Making a TK is sure a experiance, and requires a great deal of patience and the fact your gonna screw up some time or another. But alas, thanks to the guys at the First Imperial Stormtrooper Detachment, and here, keep giving me more solutions! There is also the cost, which is usually above 600 dollars, I am at nearly 700 in all costs, but everyones different.

If you are really concerned about your weight, there are easy ways to incorporate it in the TK, called Shiming. There are different makers of suits, FX which is fan casted in ABS plastic, and all the Screen casts like TE, TE2, CAP, ATA, PT and so on...I have a stocky build and I fit quite nicely into ATA armor. The price of the armor itself is pretty good *great!* but what gets you is the amount of supplies, gear, underarmor and accessories. I would find a job, or summer job and save up, getting this suit is one of the best investments I have made in my life so far!

Cool, thanks a lot! :D

Say, where did you get your armor? I was looking through star wars helmets dot com and it mentioned E-FX clooectibles as one of the big guys on stormtrooper armors, are they good? :?

The best place to start on research are the Legion's Detachments. If you are wanting to do a stormtrooper head on over to http://www.whitearemor.net it's the First Imperial Storm Trooper Detachment. They can help you out with armor research.

Well welcome aboard!

TK's, and most of the 501st and RL Legions don't approve of most commerically "off the shelf" armor and the like. Helmets are another story and with modification are more than acceptable.

E-FX is the reorganized Master Replicas and basically are the new licensed producer of Star Wars prop replicas.

http://web.mac.com/mikeharrison/armor.html

http://www.tk899.com/

Mike does a excellent job of informing the regular guy on all the acronyms and makers of Armor from over the years. He also includes what build best fits the suit for your height, weight, etc. I know some guys buy FX and get a TE, TE2, or ATA helmet to replace the FX helmet. I know that Deckard makes exequistite FX armor and sells a Light edition, which is just the armor with out helmet, then you get the supplies, etc.

What I can say is don't buy commercially available armor, or first check with our Detachment leaders...I know Rubies has Stormtrooper Armor for sale, but it takes a good amount of modification to be acceptable. Part of becoming a Stormtrooper and getting into this hobby is actually doing the build yourself, that's where some of the joy comes when you know you did a kick butt job and that you did it.

The only armor I know comes assembled, obviously cost more would be Trooper Master Armor, or TM armor, also fan casted, one of the best suits in the realm of white armor bar none. I hope to one day get a suit of TM's.

So there are also different varients of Stormtrooper Armor. ANH, ESB and ROTJ, within ANH is the Stunt trooper, and Hero versions. In short the Hero version is more attention to details, bubble lens, and that the holster has 4 rivets, instead of 2 on the stunt. Other than that, they are the same. ESB and ROTJ have different hand plates, and helmets painted a different way, notably the black gloss frown. The interesting note with ROTJ is that the bridge connecting the front and back plates, isn't a cosmetic touch like in ANH and ESB but rather are practical.

Tony does a excellent job showing all the little differences between the suits. So do some research learn some surpising facts and then choose what suit best fits your build and what kind of Stormtrooper you want to make, or if you rather go dirty and be a TD, or Sandtrooper!

Hey guys, i am sorry for all my disruptive questions but as i mentioned, i am new to this and as I research I get really confused. I am looking for something simple and cheap to start with. One of the links you guys requested me mentioned that 90 percent of the legions use the FX right? Does that make a good start for a newbie? :?

thank you for your time :D

welcome! fx is good armor, but the helmet is junk. not accurate at all. most guys buy what is called the FX lite kit. has all the armor, but no helmet. most guys then buy a TE, ATA, or master replicas(although not accurate, but better than fx) helmet to put on top. the real question is how tall are you? that is the real factor in choosing armor. hope we havent confused you too much. whitearmor.net has tons of info on the TK universe. 8)

Those would be the movies, though it's Return of the Jedi

I'm sorry to throw so much information at ya...read up on those sites they will surely help you. Definitly register a account of Whitearmor.net it will definitly be to your benefit. I don't think I've seen a Shepperton trooper in the 501st, I still highly encourage you to do your own build. I am 5'8" and 165 pounds and a ATA suit was a perfect fit. I think FX lite would be the way to go for you if you choose to make a suit. Deckard is very nice and the build isn't that difficult and plus we're all here to help you out.

I would refer you to get a FX lite kit, and a ATA helmet. Deckard is on this forum, maybe he can jump in to say a word? Your the right height to be within the original actors who portrayed the Stormies. Since there was only one suit cast being made for the movie, which was just going to be one movie at the time...all the stuntmen were around the same height range and weight. There is a picture of them walking on the Tantive, and man they were very skinny. In the end, you do what's most comfortable for you.

I am working on my ANH Stunt trooper and will be done by the end of this month...don't worry about questions! Fire away, I know I am happy to help ya as much as all the great folks here have been helping me :D[/i]

another of my...little questions...where can buy this stuff? is there any local store that isn't through the internet? Or which places would you guys recommend? I just saw a picture of a stormtrooper commander 12 from the force unleashed and i think it would be kind of cool to make my own armor based on him, not everyone is dressed as a plain white trooper right?

The armor will be from over the internet, Terrell and Deckard. Everything but the supplies to put it together will be from guys all over the internet.

Terrell can be reached at ataworks@yahoo.com, and Deckard at tupperwaretk@yahoo.com. I wouldn't order a kit right away, rather ask questions, questions and more questions. They can send you pics of the armor set, and tell you what better can fit you. I'm afraid there isn't any store you can get these from! Also take into mind that this isn't a business for them, they do these pulls one at a time.

I would suggest your dad open a Paypal account, makes all transactions really smooth!

Next would be a cloth belt, and holster, when you get that far, I'll send you more links and people to contact, again when your ready. Naming two holster makers off the top of my head would be Bernard Cushing and Brett "Anrev". Both E-11 holsters are top of thier class. Then of course boots, but I am getting ahead of myself.

So do more research, way more reseach before deciding on buying the armor. These suits, when all said and done...come close to a grand. I am at 700 hundred something and I still have to make my blaster. So it adds up, that's for sure! Also take into account this ISN'T a Halloween costume, or one thing deal, this a hobby to make replica props closest to screen accuracy as possible. They are nice to impress people at Halloween though

Is this something for a start?

You be paying WAY too much for that junk, there are a lot of inaccuracies with that helmet, and most of the suit as well. I advise you to avoid eBay at all costs regarding amor. There are certain auctions that are pretty good, but that's a rariety. I stay away from eBay at all costs and check my sources first.

Go on http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?s ... 25&act=idx,

They have a incredible database for all things TK. Also send Deckard a email for he can send you pics of the armor. Really, 500 is quite a bit for just the armor alone.

Deckard is the man who provides us with sweet ABS FX goodness! His email I posted above. There are no sites to shop, you have to surf around the FISD to find stuff. There are no WTB, or Want to Buy threads there. So read, then ask questions on who to contact, don't make a thread saying, I want to buy a Holster. The seach button is your friend!

More than likely I pass on the guys who made my stuff to you, at least save you a good deal of time!

http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?showtopic=1898 Deckard's thread

http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?showtopic=444 Bernard Cushing's ANH holsters make sure you specify what kind you want...

Like I said, Anrev makes sweet Imperial holsters as well.

There is only the FISD really, and getting items first occurs with trading emails with them, and I have nothing but great things to say from all my transactions with all of them! I find more thread links if need be, but I can safely assume your of the brain power to find a lot of them yourself  Just let me know bro if you have more questions, and believe me none of them are stupid, especially with this hobby ask first before you do anything, at least until you have a good idea of what your doing!
