Biker Scout Armor Project WARNING: picture heavy

Post by Acrylikhan »

Hello, everyone!

I've been working on making my own Biker Scout Armor for the past six months. I'd figure I'd throw myself into the fray and start showing off my skills. Right now, I'm creating the masters for silicone molds of the arm armor. So... here's some snap shots of my work in progress.

Lots of work done this weekend. The arm masters are nearly complete. If I can get molds ready by August, I could have a set done... and possibly have a few for ebay.

Enough dreaming though... here's reality:

Image

Thermal detonator housing is started! I used 1/8th-inch Acrylic sheets cut to size and then glued together.

Image

I used styrene to cut the shuttle. This side glued inplace without a hitch.

Image

This side crazed after I hit it with some kicker.

Image

A little bondo and sanding things look really good.

Image

Then primed it. More picts below:

More to come...

Back to the forearm armor.

Image

I took a layer of primer to get see the flaws and dings from assembly of the top layer with the bottom layer. you can see the curves of the top layer "tongue" are not symmetrical. Quick work with a dremel restored a proper curve. It's body filler time.. so I started with the backside first.

Image

Before and After

Image

A little more fine tuning and it will be smoother than a baby's butt.

Top side, I patched the curve areas with bondo. I let it dry and then smoothed out one side to get the proper angle.

Image

Then sanded the other side as closely as possible.

More orthos:

Oh, man... picture limited exceeded!!! Hang on... a few more pictures!!!

One big happy family!

Image

These parts are going to be much heavier than the vacuform cast ABS. But I can deal with that

Getting closer to molding time! Still so much more to go though!

KATHY!!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D
Thank you so much for your help (with the Imperial Hat). I'm still trying to put one together. I'll send you pictures when I get it done. The uniform is only 25% complete, and we're workig on a Thrawn, too. Having problems getting the red eyeball covering perscription contact lenses.... they're quite expensive. I did make command bars out of machined aluminum and some urethane squares.

Image

IndyKnightNoval, thanks for the encouragement! It's been rough, but very enjoyable!

Arc: You expect me not to show off??!?!?!???

More to post in a few days.

More updates on the Biker Scout Project

I had to create a new Thermal Detonator after I broke the first generation model.

I have to make another endcap, and the zip tie will hold the hose in place and provide the details between the dial and the buttons. Arcturus, if you need some of the rubber feet, I hook you up at the next model party.

Special thanks to Arcturus for the Sump Pump Hose. You are GOD!

I also have some pieces that go in the Scout Bicep Armor Section. I think there are two scouts here who have these parts proudly displayed on there armor! :D :D I wonder who's the other lucky scout is?

I'll be posting more in the next week. I have started the Knee Armor, and should be a fascinating headache! I love this!

Keep in Touch!

Oh, Yeah! I'm on BSN all the time looking at pictures and asking for advice. Been Missing ya over there!! I met some members of the MWG over at a party this weekend, and I thought, Hey! I should keep posting my stuff here too! Besides, I'll be seeing you guys more once I get a costume together and start trooping and why not make some new friends!

Made very good progress the last few weeks, now that my schedule has been freed up. Not too mention have a new years solution make better progress.

So, I'm redoing the shoulder armor as I had originally made it too small. And I'm closing in on the knee armor. I'm hoping to post some pictures of both soon.

Frank, nice to finally meet you over the weekend! I'm still drooling over the scout pistol. . . .

And . . . you can bet when I get my new armor, I'll be putting those really excellent t-bits on that armor instead of the bits that come with it! Oh, and the endcaps do look VERY cool with the hose and thermal box.

Jim -- those t-bits would be from Vader's TIE kit.

Let’s face it; being tracked down by the empire is far more fun for a 5yo than looking at props behind glass.
