Biker Scout helmet decals

Post by Speedracer29 »

Does anyone have a reliable source for scout trooper helmet decals. I have a MLC FG.

(Don't even bother if it is a source out of Florida, I am trying to keep my blood pressure low as I type this.)

I used auto pinstriping for mine. The 'trigger' logo on the side, I opted for the 'digital' squared edged look instead of the curvery one we always see-which made cutting it from pinstriping pretty easy.

Decals

Post by Speedracer29 »

TB0101-

Yeah, I used some black pinstripes for the back vents on the lid. It turned out pretty awesome. I was looking at gray the other day but they wanted 10.00 for about 100 ft. I guess I was being cheap. I want to do the "squared edge" look as I think it is more accurate and looks better.

I just thought I'd ask. Your right it would probably be easier to go that route.

Thanks-

I like what you did with your nose piece. Your bucket turned out really nice.
The only real downside to laying down all the pin-stripe (besides monotony) was getting it to stay even; the stuff is too stretchy. I also didn't put enough clear coat over mine and the edges have started to go.

JREDMAN29-

Thanks for the offer, however I don't have a MAC. Actually, I may just live with what I got. I used autostriping. I think it turned out pretty good. Not perfect but pretty good.

For the TB's out there, any criticisms, fire away. I take it well.

Actually, I believe those are lag bolts.

Elevator bolts are completly flat.

My only suggestion for the helmet is to perhaps move the
"fish hook" upward and forward a little bit and possibly use some wider pinstripe.

Original Scout:

I [also] like what you've done with the nose piece, looks sharp.

The "bar code" stripes, on the rear of the helmet, also turned out well.
Those are a pain to apply by hand.
Did you use the "masking tape method" to lay those down?

For the nose piece I painted it all black then painted the raised fins in grey. I am eventually hoping to upgrade that piece with something higher quality.

I painted the bucket with white Krylon spray paint. It took a few coats but that paint was really easy to work with, sand and repaint. It dries super fast and doesn't "orange peel".

I think the bolts are actually called "elevator bolts", at least everyone refers to them as such over on Bikerscout.net.

I painted the bolt covers white originally as I thought it would look better, knowing it isn't screen accurate, but now that you mention it I should go back and paint them gray as I have tried hard to get everything screen accurate.

I also have two small fans inside that draw air in, with individual switches so I can activate either one or both as necessary.

As far as the hook, it took a lot to get that so I may leave it for a while until I find one better that isn't hand cut and placed. The bar code stripes on the back were hand cut and placed. I tried the masking tape method and it did not turn out well so I placed each stripe by hand instead.

elevator bolts are completely flat on top...lag bolts are pretty much any bolt with a gap between the thread and the hex/top area.

So you're both wrong. :P

*bikerscout.net is a great site, no doubt, but you gotta keep in mind some of those guys think rubber and caboots boots are cool.

For me, the really ironic part is 826 is the one who introduced elevator bolts and auto door push pins to the BS.net a bunch of years back....<still chuckling>

Finally something i know about, the space of no threading on a bolt doesn't denote a bolt type.

Lag bolts are used for wood type connections no nuts or anchors as the threads are too coarse.

Most likely you are looking for Carriage bolts they have a button top head with machine treads. Have to use a coresponding threaded nut or anchor
this one has a square neck

All right, look, there's only one "Return," okay, and it ain't "of the King," it's "of the Jedi!

Here's what I used on mine: simple bolt and nut, then I covered the outside of the bolt with just the very top part of this GREY STOPPER from American Science & Surplus. It's rubber and easy to hack off the top part with a hobby knife. No paint required & they were 10¢ each.

"Carriage bolt"

That's what I was thinking.
I often make the mistake of calling one by the others name.

By comparison, here is an elevator bolt:

Yeah you have to learn your material quickly in construction. Luckily i grew up with family in construction.

I remember some of the newbie's in the trade gettting screamed at because they brought the wrong part from the material lock up. It doesn't help that a lot of parts have multiple slang names that make zer0 sense.
