Republic Commando Building Thread

Post by SHIMKO »

I guess the first thing we need are reference photos and then we can start discussing who is going to build what. Discuss!

I'll gather as many pics as possible by raiding CT.net's RC archives. I'll try to get them on by this weekend. Is someone going to do Scorch or Fixer?

Yeah, me. Jaster, you know I'm kidding, man. You can pick whichever guy you want to be. I will be happy just to build one. I don't know any of the characters. Is there a reliable source for the helmet, or is somebody going to start from square one and sculpt it themselves? Whatever the case, I really want to make one of these. It's the coolest of the clones.

All I have to say is I have some pretty strange methods of building masters for stuff so don't go all hollering at me if I make something and it works for me and you end up taking my name in vain when it doesn't work for you......Ask Mr Redman if you need further explaination.

By the way I would prefer to keep this in the family of the Midwest and am not interested in selling this stuff to the Legion. Does anyone have a concern with this preference? As for helmets there are some out there but I'm thinking we'll be better off in the long run making those too and not relying on an outside source.

There is a member on CT.net that is selling the blaster with attachments for $225 shipped. Anyone interested in getting one?

Yeah, maybe I should just worry about making the costumes I do have right before I try and work on something else. Not to mention that I have 4 helmets to paint for other people.

Can't wait to see everybody else's, though. Post w.i.p. pics guys.

I can tell you 1st hand, with the exception of 1 or 2 fan mades, NOTHING is even close to being right out there, esp. the ABS ones, those are really CRAP - O - LA!

I suppose the question of the day is who is down for making what parts...be it chest back shoulders...what have you. Now I know first hand that carving a temporary master out of styrofoam blue board...also comes in pink.... is realitively easy. Or I can start swiping pieces of 2lb density poly styrene from work. From there we can make temporary pulls to do a plaster mould to shape and sand to the final finishe mould. So lets get a decent list of names on all those willing to throw in a wee bit of effort. If we divide up the work it will be loads easier. Measurements are the key here we need to get all the pieces mapped out so that when they are brought together they will look like they go together.

Maybe we should have a party to make duct tape lifecasts. This way we could figure out what would work for the bigger and the smaller troopers, to give a good sense of scale needed for the project.

Steve you carve them, and I will do the molding. How does that sound? Maybe we should start with the chest and back?
