Re: vacuum table
The Thurston James book recommends using exactly what DV suggested, the nichrome wire and the ceramic spacers.
The table I / we built is small enough that we can use the oven as a heating source.
Although, when the larger one is built I plan on using the above components.

Re: vacuum table
You can also use of the cheap indoor grills they sell at Wal-Mart or K-Mart etc.

Turn it upside down and, with your size tabel you will need to use a few bolted together.

Here are a few example on eBay just because I knew I could easily find images there

<a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... <a href="http://

<ahref="http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2370122644&cate">cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2370122644&cate<a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ...
