Cad Bane Scratch Build

Post by Marvinrobot »

I have officially begun a scratch build for Cad Bane. I prototyped the gauntlets in card board. These are very rough but it gave me the general ideas on how to move forward.

So if your children ever wondered why math/algebra is important here is what a simple solve for "X" can do for you...

Using Cad Bane's actual height and a scaled pic of him and his pistol, I was able to print a 1:1 scale picture of the grip and main body. These pistols are actually very slender and long...it's a 12" barrell.

Wally, I have to say that once you do all of the really hard work, I'd love to steal everything that you work up and copy it all so that Chicago can have a little taste of Duros bounty hunter, too.
Break a leg with the build. I can't wait to see what you come up with!

So, the entire costume will be made of cardboard?
(you're brave...I would end up with a paper cut!)

The gauntlet is starting out in cardstock. I wanted to get a rough shape to work with. Next I will fill it with foam to firm it up and then will make a solid casting of the rough shape to actually work on. I may not make the casting I may just start bondo'n just have to see how things go. In the end I will produce a 2 part mold that I can make fiberglass gaunts out of.

The pistiol grip will be in wood and the barrell out of plastic tubes. If I find a real scope I like I may just use that rather than make it.

The Holsters/bandolier will be in real leather.

I'm still undecided on the duster, saddle bag, chaps. The shirt will be in a pseudo seude textured polyester.

If your R2 is any indication of the quality of your work...your gonna be the best darn Cad Bane the Legion has yet to see!
Many bothans died to bring you this post...the tearing of ligaments and almost the loss of a TK's finger...

So I've taken the initial card board gauntlet, covered it with fiberglass resin, filled it with "Great Stuff" gap filler, cut down the overflow and applied the first coat of bondo. I will apply a couple more layers and then move on to automotive bondo as I work it smoother.

Yes and no. I loved Denal's paint scheme, Loved Cad, found a sick irony in the fact that after I decided to do Cad, Denal is killed by him...weird coincidence? or fate?

What I love is that I will be able to go as Cad in clone armor too  buuuahaahahahaha

I'm now at a point where I'm making adjustments. It is definitely a challenge translating "Alien" proportions to something wearable by the average trooper. The photo below show you how I have shortened the gaunlet in a proportionate manner. I will be adding a styerene box to the bottom to give it the appropriate squared off look. I will also add a new top to increase the angle. Right now I'm thinking the gaunlet would be in 3 parts: Bottom, middle top, and panel top. More to come.
