Re: Imperial Officer
Do I need to purchase any other supplies from Tandy if I am making the Belt? Like the "wool daubers?" Couldn't I just use a soft cloth?TKvanB wrote:Belt / Buckle
Here is the Tandy Leather site for the belt & buckle & dye:
Rectangle Buckle Blank 2" #1168800 = the buckle
Natural Cowhide Belt Blank 2" #4451800 = the belt
Fiebings Dye 4 oz USMC Black #2100-01 = dye for the belt

From my experience...the daubers are worth it...the raw leather really soaks up the dye and the dauber allows you to have plenty of dye soaked up into it....and you get less streaking...
I have not done too many belts....so there are probably folks out there with more experience...
but I tried both methods...and the daubers were much better...

Any other tips for the belt?

Acrylikhan is happy again.
Belt & Buckle --
One option: if there is a Kohl's department store near you -- go there
now & check their Men's department. They are currently stocking nearly
perfect ready-made belts by "RELIC" with a very close to accurate buckle
(it's slightly smaller than the standard Tandy Leather belt buckle blank).
They are on sale there now. You would still need to apply a greeblie to the
buckle, otherwise, it's a fabulous value!
If you are a smaller build person, the proportion of this belt will "look right" on you. If you are a larger build, then building one out of the supplies available from Tandy leather would be a better option.
Imperial Officers Belts
Belt & Buckle -- There is a company brand called "Relic" that offers a nearly
perfect ready-made Imperial Officer belt with a very close to accurate buckle.
(it's slightly smaller than the standard Tandy Leather belt buckle blank).
It has a 1 1/2" wide smooth finish leather belt strap and a slightly curved 2 1/8" x 3 1/2" antique silver finish buckle.
The buckle is slightly smaller than the standard flat Tandy leather belt buckle blank (2 5/8" x 4") and the ready-made is slightly curved. The model / stock number is RMB-1003001XX (the last two digits are the numerical belt size) Relic Plaque Leather Belt (in various even sizes 34 to 42) retail price = $20.00

You would still need to apply a greeblie to the buckle, otherwise, it's a fabulous value! The other alternative for belts is buying the pieces separately from Tandy Leather and building them yourself, but you are going to be spending around $15 or more for these supplies too.

An other belt buckle option:
Check around on the IOC forums. I know that a Member had been building his own buckle casting based off of canon measurment specifics.
I saw a few of these in person in CA. Several of the Legion's Drill Sergeants and Captains wore them for the Rose Parade.
They are beautifully made from the highest quality materials with superior craftmanship and complete attention to detail.
(read - they are not cheap)

I could machine mine own buckle, as I work in a machine shop full time. So I could get mine, for, well, free.

Thanks for the input!!!

Code Cylinders - sources
Code Cylinders - Search for "chalk holder"
www.bender-burkot.com/

http://www.pyramidspcatalog.com/product ... ts_id=7138
Aluminum Chalk Holder
[1370154] price currently listed at $2.35 (however that may be per piece for a bulk purchase.)

You can leave these plain or modify them a little. If you have the Star Wars Original Trilogy Visual Dictionary, there is a close up picture of the code cylinders. You can replace the tops, paint the tops, add pin-striping.
I know there are sources for even fancier & more accurate code cylinders however, fancier = more expensive.

Kathy,
I just got my Imperial Boots! They are an equestrian riding boot, zipper on the inside, and they go up about mid calf. They go nice with jodhopurs! But there is a problem...
I tried them on and they fit perfectly in the foot... which is a good thing as I am a size 13. The bad part is my calves. I have very thin calves. People call me long ankles. so when I put the boots on there's enough room for my pants to fit into, but there's all this extra space! I can feel it slap against the front of my leg, and the back of my leg when I walk and run.
If it was just a little bit of room, I wouldn't mind. But this is cavernous expanse!
Does anyone have a suggestion how to fix this? I'd love to hear some advice before I do to a shoe repair shop.
ALSO:
If you get the chance, thumb through The Making of Sar Wars by J. W. Rinzler. There are some great pictures of the Imperial Officer Uniform, especially the scene of storming the blockade runner. Apparently, they used gauntleted leather gloves for the Black Suited Officers while they were aboard the Tantive. They may have more notes on what they else they used on the uniform, besides the dossimeters. There's good shots of the belt boxes the Black Suited Officers sometimes have.
I'm almost finished, and this time I'll get it right!!! Look forward to your advice!
