The common answers are Hyperdyne and RomFX.

For cheap & dirty, you can also use common Radio Shack parts, too (which is the same exact stuff that TrikToys sells for too high of a mark-up) -- $12 white Radio Shack amp, $25 electret mic, hot glue, masking tape, paper towel, and a tube of white silicone caulk.

The inside of my helmet ain't clean and fancy, but gets the job done. :)

awesome...thanks 4 the help m8

that triktoy stuff is interesting, esp the "static burst" part..that's pretty cool. the box looks huge though? is that about right?

btw are there cooling fans that you would recommend? they look to be just cpu cooling fans.

They tell you to blow into the mic for the "static burst" sound.

Triktoy is WAY over priced.

There is also the Circuit City Amp which comes with the headset
(it’s a bit pricier – at least in Canada) but its all together

I do not see this on the US website but they are on the Canadian site and I have seen them in stores here. They’d probably let you order it.

So I guess fair is fair, I can’t get the white amp and you can’t get the black amp without crossing a border. lol :p

Has anyone ever tried those little microphones and speakers that security people use or that people use for presentations?

The only problem with the black amp is the big black lump on your hip. Your voice comes from the wrong part of your body. 8)

If you're looking for a fan (same as the ones offered by Radio Shack, just cheaper), then try AMERICAN SCIENCE & SURPLUS.

Part number EFB0612MA. It's called LITTLE SUCKER.

And he's working on getting an RT kit together, so we'll have him in our ranks soon.

Questions are good!

Better lots of questions than mistakes like er gluing yourself to your Tusken bandages

The fewer "aww crap" moments the better :D

I'm actually switching to a better speaker over the one that is commonly sold as an aerator speaker. Reason being 20mm won't fit in the Hova-Mix aerators, and I've found a slightly smaller one that has the same wattage, ohms, and range. Thing is they are so new I don't have a price yet, but I can guarentee they will be cheaper than Miniature Locomotive shop, and the ebay guy  sell them, and I won't jip on shipping. I'll have one of the first shipments when they are ready.

There are cheaper 20mm speakers out there but they are 1/3rd the wattage and will blow if you use them with anything other than a RR decoder. What makes aerator speakers "special" among train speakers they are considered high watt.

EDIT I just found out these new ones are going to have 33% more nominal and 25% more max wattage over the "other" speakers.
