Custom helmets? Rad. But the best Stormtrooper helmet in the entire 501st belongs to a guy who just joined up about a year ago and lives close to me.....and it's even an FX bucket. But it's an FX bucket worth over $1,500 ....so far...he's not finished yet.

Well, reason he used an FX helmet is because his wife and friends all went in a bought him a full set of armor for his 40th birthday, so that's what he had to work with. He's a computer guy who just loves tinkering with things.

Let's see if I can remember what he's got in his helmet so far (besides normal CPU fans like everyone uses)......

Voice Amp, walkie-talkie with 25 mile range, AM-FM radio, front and rear mounted mini cameras connected to two pairs of gutted Ipod video glasses which together produced two mini monitors to view the cameras through. One each is mounted just below the eye lense inside his helmet. Also he carries a Bluetooth Wi-Fi laser keyboard on his belt. With this he can place it on a table and it creates a full sized laser keyboard so he can literally type Word documents or look at the Internet inside his helmet. The helmet is connected through an Ethernet cable which goes down through his armor to his left forearm armor where he built a little box holding a mini-DVR player so he can literally videotape events right through his helmet while trooping.

Also connected through this left forearm armor is 3 little pushbuttons which he can play downloaded Stormtrooper movie quotes from and they play with extremely clear sound. He can change which 3 sound files he wants before an event.

On the ammo belt of his costume, inside one of the little rectangles, is a vibratory speaker, which isn't a speaker like normal, but instead uses the plastic of the armor itself as the speaker. It plays the main Star Wars theme.

Future plans include figuring a way to have 2 more mini cameras mounted, one in each earpiece, so he could have full 360 degree view from inside his helmet. The entire inside of his helmet is covered in soft-sided velcro, so he can move things around at will.

......oh, and have you seen the Clone Wars episode recently where the Clones had the little white light "headlights" shine from the outsides of their helmets? Yeah, that inspired him and he did that too. The little gray rectangles on the forehead of the Stomtrooper now flip open and the super bright LED lights pop out. Then he can close the hatches up again and it goes back to looking like a normal Stormy.

Here's some footage he shot at the last event he did WHILE trooping the event. Granted those little helmet cams are security type cams, so they don't have a great digital quality to them like a full out camcorder would, but just the fact he did this inside a TK bucket is very creative. He posted a little video here:
