06/22-23/2018 FRI/SAT - Relay 4 Life - Normal/61761
Corn Crib Stadium
This year the Relay was held at a NEW location, the Corn Crib Stadium home of the Town of Normal Corn Belters Baseball team. The weather was great and we had a great time posing for pictures and putting smiles on kids of all ages. The attendance for this event was smaller than years past but the committee is working hard to return this to the large scale this event has been known for.
We had 3 Grand Club members this year Barry Benecke 523 $5,421.00, Tom Durbin 9293 $1,110.00 & Jeremy Wilcox $1,000.00 Way to go!!
At midnight 8/31 the books were closed on McLean County Relay for Life 2018 so these are the final totals.
Imperial Walkers direct funds raised $7,641.00
Total raised by all teams $277,001.70

All right, look, there's only one "Return," okay, and it ain't "of the King," it's "of the Jedi!

We had a great time, at a new venue. I really enjoyed it, the track was much smaller, but I liked the overall feel of the place. During our walk, a freelance photographer, Nathaniel West, took pictures for the ZP Challenge. I have been losing weight since January of 2018. By the time the Relay rolled around, I was down 52 pounds. My family had given me a weight loss incentive, offering various dollar amounts per pound of weight loss. Over $1,000 of what I raised for A.C.S., was from this weight loss. I knew I wanted to look better in my armor, and have struggled with my weight over the past 10 plus years, after losing my mom to cancer.
The McLean County Relay for Life normally close the books on August 31st, this year, they closed them on August 13th. I had two more fundraisers that I did the last two Sunday's in August, plus had 1 of 2 of my V.A.P. (Volunteerism Always Pays ) grants come in between August 13th and August 31st. That brought in an additional $1,446.69, which will count toward me and team Imperial Walkers 2019 Relay for Life walk. That will be our teams 15th consecutive McLean County Relay for Life walk.
