Il-University Park-Weird Al Concert 9-29-07

Post by Schph Gochi »

As many groups before us, we were thrilled to be a part of the Weird Al Concert at Governor's State University in University Park IL.

As event coordinator I was grateful to end up with 11 participants and a great bunch of people.

First and foremost:
Thanks to all our participants! (in member # order)

TB0101 - Aimee Jorgensen - Biker Scout
TK0826 - Damian Jorgensen - Stormtrooper
TD1216 - Bob Walton - Sandtrooper
SL1781 - Rich Markle - Darth Vader
TK1951 - Phyllis Schulte - back up Stormtrooper
TK2632 - Scott Hicks - Stormtrooper
BH3620 - Rudy Grasha - Boba Fett
TK6442 - John Fitzsimmons - Stormtrooper
TD8310 - Bob Hamilton - Sandtrooper
TI8699 - Kathleen Mulholland - Tie Pilot
TK9052 - Stephanie Hicks - Stormtrooper

Archivist:
SL5202 - Mary Walton

Support and Photos:
Aubrey (Bob' Hamilton's significant other)

Also participating (with tickets for the show)
Ashlee Markle
Conor Markle

Also, like most of the groups before us we had little information before we left for the Center For the Performing Arts at Governor's State.
I looked at the campus map and decided to have everyone meet at parking lot E...which was a mistake as we had a little hike to the venue...but it was a beautiful night.

When we got there, we were greeted by "Hammer" and shown to our "dressing room" which was outdoors in the back in the parking lot with the busses. Hammer was apologetic about our dressing room but we all assured him that we were quite used to getting dressed in parking lots.

We received our dinner pass and our backstage passes and many went in to dine....or brought their plate outside to enjoy the beautiful evening under the stars.

Hammer then came out a little later to review our routine. Since we ended up with an odd number of Stormtroopers, I elected to not suit up (I know that it was stated from the get-go that we must keep an even number of troopers) but went through the routine behind the rest of the participants in case anyone fainted from stage freight...lol....no one did. Hammer was gracious and let our Boba Fett (Rudy Grasha) be part of the stage show even though Rudy's "mirror" character did not show up. For this...I was grateful.

We moved into the catering room once the band and Weird Al went on stage.
Just as we lined up in the catering room for some photos our Troops were called up to go on and when the lights went up on them on stage, were greeted with the traditional thunderous applause by the audience. The routine went without a hitch and everyone looked great as Aubrey and I watched them on a monitor in the catering room.

We then cleared out all of our stuff from the catering room and went back to the parking lot until the meet and greet.

We were the last group to get to see Al and get autographs. One of the things that struck me as amusing was that folks were taking photos of our members (still in costume) as others were taking photos of Weird Al.

We got our turn for autographs and we did so in a rapid manner as poor Al looked so very exhausted....which is not surprising as he pours everything he has into his concert.

As always...thanks to all who came out...
thanks to Weird Al for the wonderful opportunity...
and a good time was had by all!

Rudy has made a copy for us all....
and will be getting copies out as he sees us...

I will be seeing Rudy tonight at the Museum of Science and Industry outing and will probably get a copy....

Rudy made a couple attempts to post the video on-line but was having difficulty...so he decided to just burn copies for the participants....
