After nosing around, I got lucky and got a urethane 89 rang from a guy on BOTB for $10.... the seller warned me that it was pretty thin... I believe he described it as "flops like a dead fish"
Well, it showed up today and he wasn't too far off the mark....
I grabbed an old carboard box, a pen, and a razor blade. I traced out the shape of the 'rang with the pen and cut it out with the blade. The original plan was to back it in three segments so I could fold it, but that was a failure after a few experiments.
It is still segmented, but the gaps are "bridged" by two more pieces of carboard.
I then hit the cardboard backing with some black acrylic paint and superglued it down around the edges.
After digging for some silver-ish paint, I brushed a bit on the "blades" at the tips of the wings and this is the end result:
and a pic of the back.. as I said, not pretty, but it get's the job done
