Making Strides Against Breast Cancer-Aurora 10-18-09
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is a non competitive 5K to raise funds and awarness during October which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
For the past month our troops have been busy fundraising via 2 small "Donation Stations" and from their friends, families, and co-workers.
This team of rather unsual Breast Cancer walkers raised an astonishing $4,016.00 (at last count). Part of the money raised was on pink armbands that carried the name of someone who was either "honored" (still alive and battling cancer) or "remembered" (someone lost to cancer). Each of the team members had an armband with their name and logos of the Midwest Garrison and Nar Shaddaa Base on one arm and wore armbands for the armbands of the others who we were honoring and remembering.
Thanks to our participants who absolutely went above and beyond. It isn't easy hauling your behind out of bed at 6:00 AM (and earlier) on a Sunday morning when the temperatures outside are at about the freezing mark.
My hats off to all of you (in no particular order):

Had a great time for a great cause! Special thank you to Phyllis for setting this up and making all those pink ribbons for us.
Here are some pictures my wife took.

This was such a great event,
I had just remembered that when we all started walking towards the festivities, most of the walkers just stopped and turned at the site of Stomtroopers, X-Wing Pilots, RFT's, Bikers, Tuskens, Jawa's, and above all, Darth Vader.
I could see smiles on many faces of adults and kids. I was even told "Thank you" not for taking pictures but for all of us being there to help support this cause. Needless to say i'll do this again in a heartbeat!
Phyllis again, Thanks so very much, I had fun, and I know many of us did as well.

Darryl....
I am sending all of your armbands along with Crix because both of you are going to the Discovery Museum event.
Because I had intented to have R2 wear all of them...
so they were in a big group waiting for R2 to arrive to put them on him....
Because of logistics and the fact that those were not on the list for others to wear....the armbands didn't get worn by walkers....
Where I don't have a photo of a character wearing them....you can still give them to the people who purchased them and give them a team photo...
I will send you a PDF thank you to give to them....I can add a photo of
S5 from last year.
I am so sorry that you could not make it...was looking forward to it...and I know you were too.

I am finishing up the MSABC project and wanted to share with all of you the last piece of the project...
Mailing out the memorial armbands..
This is why I had you all pose with the armbands you wore....
These are being mailed and personally delivered to all who donated in honor of someone in the battle of their lives..
or to remember someone lost to the battle.
These memorial armbands put names to the struggle..
and I thank you all for wearing them proudly...
Also...
I neglected to identify our cute little Jawas....
The Jawas present were Mark Van Slyke's two sons...
They made one entire loop of the walk ....
How great is that!!
Thank you Mark for bringing the boys along!
