As I've said in my original post, this one really had a lot of meaning for me as it was a troop I've been dreaming about for quite some time now! I couldn't have been more pleased with the result!
We all arrived about 1 PM and were brought to a conference room to store our stuff and change. The troop started at 2:30 PM and initially there wasn't many kids in the Life Center. As the visit progressed, several volunteers were able to invite several families from the floor to come down for some pictures and fun!
After the initial pictures we were all able to have some fun with the kids and join them in activities such as board games, puzzles and just generally running around and playing with them. It was an absolute pleasure to see Darth and Chewie having a tea party with a little girl or Han, Leia, Boba Fett and a Biker Scout all playing Sorry at a table with tiny chairs! I also joined in the festivities by working on a puzzle with a brilliant young man named Tyreese which was made even funnier when I attempted to sit in those tiny chairs (A true feat in TK) while being made fun of from behind by a Tie Pilot!
Overall a truly successful troop! I do feel that although I did my best to prep the Hospital coordinators as to who we were, I think they didn't really understand what they were getting until they saw us! They were blown away! I'm sure we will be visiting there again really soon and I'm positive that the next troop there will be even bigger and better than this one was!
I can't thank the participants enough, including much respect and love toward the Rebel Legion/Nar Shaddaa base who were so nice to join us!! We had some of the best costumes the Legion has to offer and the folks that came really made a difference in the lives of those kids and families we touched that day! I am in awe of all of you for the kindness, humility and charity you all displayed that day!
We didn't accept any donations for anything but Dan and Steff Moriarty and Steve Dembo all brought bags of Star Wars toys to give away and we all brought cards, Legion activity books and tattoos for the kids. I was also informed that Steve Mammen and Jim Tampa have made a donation to the Family Life Center in the name of Wheatlands Elementary School. I will inform the hospital of this right away.
