Connor's Birthday Party - 10-13-12

Post by Fleetfang »

Since I don't make a secret of my Imperial affiliations, one of my co-workers thought of the Midwest Garrison when she was planning a birthday party for her 5-year-old son, Connor. The Legion was called, and we did not disappoint! We met up on a rainy Saturday afternoon at the Butterfield Park District, and while the 30 kids in attendance entertained themselves with the Legion activity books and arts and crafts, we suited up for a grand entrance. I have to admit that some of the kids there might've been too young to have seen Star Wars, but even the ones who didn't know who our characters were were still thoroughly entertained by the games that we brought with us. The MWG pulled out all of the stops with Hot Deathstar and a new Pin the Arm on the Wampa, but the most popular game by far was the classic Nerf Blaster Range. As soon as we set it up until the party moved to the gym, there was a long line to play. Kids just love shooting stuff. :) In the gym, Gaza and I dodged basketballs and hula hoops. We shot free-throws with our buckets on until we sank one each and then we quit while we were on top. ;) After a group photo with all of the kids, we all went back to the party room and sang Happy Birthday to Connor before digging into Star Wars cupcakes!

Strangely, we didn't take too many pictures with the kids. I only have one, with the boy of one of my other co-workers, Max.

This was my first time coordinating a birthday party event, and I couldn't have done it without the help of Jason, David, and Steve, who all came out to make the day one that Connor will never forget. We gave Connor a great party, but more importantly, our efforts earned a donation of $250 for XMas for Kids. That's enough money to get all of the clothes and school supplies for one underprivileged child in LaSalle County, with enough left over for presents to help make sure that they have a merry Christmas.

Go Team Empire!
