Utica, IL Burgoo Festival, X-Mas 4 Kids fundraiser

Post by TB 0101 »

Members of the MWG 501st Legion spent their Sunday at LaSalle County's Burgoo Festival in an effort to increase awareness of Sheriff's Deputy Felicia Rasmussen's community charity, X-Mas 4 Kids.
The Burgoo Festival, named for a hearty pioneer stew that will be served during the Sunday event, is the 41st edition of the LaSalle County Historical Society's major fund raising event of the year.
Several hundred vendors line Utica's street for the festival, and this small town of 1000 residents sees an influx of 40k people during the festival.

For more information about this charitable cause which helps needy and underprivileged children removed from their homes and/or are in shelters have a happy holiday season, please visit X-Mas 4 Kids on Facebook .

I know we had $20 direct. The ten from the sox game and ten from me.
I will politely enquire about indirect when I get home from work.

Big thanks to Aimee, Mike, and the 'Brothers Steve' for making it such an awesome day of trooping! I never got to try that burgoo stew, though... I think we really need to go back again next year. :)

I was at the Burgoo Festival probably 25 years ago while camping at Starved Rock....didn't get any of the stew either...lol...went to town too late..

at any rate..

I know it is probably going to be difficult to get any figures from the "XMas 4 Kids" folks...but if you can get any idea of what was raised in total by them for this fest...I can include all the other $$ and items as indirect in addition to direct.

There are some photos up on The Jedi Assembly's Facebook page...

see if you can grab them...
they are here:

The Jedi in the one photo is one of our members.

Diana? It was great to finally put a face to the lady I've been talking to on and off for a couple years now
She's very sweet, and I really hope to have another chance to troop with her again!

*And thanks for the photo link! The only one I had seen was from the reporter in the paper, which is linked above. I'm really glad Diana had her camera with her!

**and yayyyy! I was able to make the pics work!

I've gone ahead and stolen those pictures and uploaded them to the MWG Photobucket. I also found a few more on the Xmas4Kids facebook and have done the same. This was too fun a troop not to get at least some images archived. :D

If anyone comes upon any more pictures from this event on the internet, please upload them there!

Yes...that is Diana....
she is a nice person..
I went down to wear she lives a couple years ago to help her cut her TK armor...but I don't think she ever finished it....

She has been with The Jedi Assembly now for a few years and I know she gets out when she is able...I hope she hooks up with the folks from Central Illinois again...
I know she enjoyed the day...

She's "short trooper" on our forum. I'll ask the guys to be sure she has event planning access, so when she's able to join us, it'll be easier for her to.
We talked about a few of the things she has in the works-she's far more ambitious than I am as far as building :)

Brian heard from Felicia, and from what he told me the indirect funds were just over $2,600.00. Gaza and I put in about 3 hours, Brian about 3.5, Jon I think around 5-6, and Steve M. I think was around 5. Diana made it as long as she could, and I think she made 4.
These are guesstimates, and could be off.

and...
many thanks for the stats...

I will add that to the Charity Blog today...

Cool. We did have the 20 direct donation, though.
(I know it isn't much)
