Joliet Library SWD3 June 2nd.

Post by Nightshifter »

June 2nd was the Joliet Librarys 3 Star Wars Day event and once again the MWG now with members in from WI and IN were a big hit. The event worked across the board with the libaray, 501st, CED of Joliet, vendors , Lego Land , Sandtroopers.com, artist Dave Dorman , Steve Palanica, and J.J. In 2010 there was 650 people and the event was inside the library, 2011 was 1,800 people and the event was in the library 2012 there was 3,440 est people and the event now not only moved outside but also closed down the street along the south side of the library to handle a stage, vendors and also croud control.
We had 40 plus members of the 501st show and interact with the public . After the event we had a vip party in the main room with the cantina bar donated by Mike Bollow from Cyphan. We as a group got to enjoy celebrating Dave Dorman 30th year doing SW art .
Over all this event would have not coe together if it were not for the help of all involved and for that I thank you all.
The CED and the library both said they had no problems during the event and all went great. So the talk next year is they would like to try a two day event...This now is only talk at this stage so we will see where this goes. From what we can see it it is only going to get bigger..

Thank you again to all involved. I have copied the sign up list and placed here. If you did not sign up in time but still made it out . Thank you and please let us know.
See you all next year.

Hey so I am on this list for attendance, but I wouldn't count this at my TOD. Not like I keep count of troops, but technically I was running my booth in an unapproved RL costume. Yes I did take more pics in my Leia than I ever have in the past, I wasn't there representing the legion. :) thanks though.

Funny that you should bring up your Tour of Duty for this event, J.J.
As part of a ToD discussion that happened in the Counsel forums, Aimee and I both talked about your position as a vendor at this troop, and in the course of the conversation, we agreed that your participation beyond what you did at your booth did indeed constitute trooping the event.
In some ways, it gave rise to the larger question of 501st Legion garrisons keeping track of Rebel Legion base operations (If you were in a rebel costume, what business is it of the MWG to decide if it was a troop for you or not? Answer from the LCO: None.). But your specific case was already given the green light to count.
For the record though, I appreciate your perspective in regards to the ToD "scorecard" and the whole bragging rights thing.
Keep on troopin'. :)

not only that...

but let's remember that the Library (who we served) specifically requested/begged for Rebel face characters..
so...
at the end of the day Janine..
I feel you did us a favor (both MWG and NSB) by wearing your Leia while you manned your booth.

Oh, I'm all too aware of that point, Phyllis. Don't forget that I was also wearing a specifically-requested-by-the-host rebel costume. And like Janine's, mine isn't approved by the Rebel Legion. But unlike Janine (who has an RL-approved Jedi), I am NOT a member of the Rebel Legion, in my Han Solo costumes or otherwise. Even if the NSB was tracking attendance for their own ToD reward program for their members (which it currently is not), since I'm not a member of the local Rebel Base and have no ToD tally with them at all, I pretty much would be doing the event just for the love of the game.

BUT...
Since it sounds like this is dovetailing into the current MWG discussion about the ToD, I feel like I should note that Aimee has already mentioned in that thread that in cases where an MWG event host specifically requests a rebel character from an MWG member (as they did for J.J. and I), that there's no question that it ought to count toward the member's MWG ToD totals. Maybe that fine point was missed along the way.

I understand the entire situation clearly...

I am old...
but not senile...

regardless of the other discussion...

certain events (not all) come down to what is our sponsor/requesting entity
requesting of us?
