My brother is a science teacher at Pontiac Jr. High School in Fairview Heights, IL. Last week one of his 8th grade students was diagnosed with leukemia and was started on chemotherapy. I decided it would be a good idea to pay him a visit in our armor after discussing his condition with his parents. Scott and I arrived at Cardinal Glennon Childrens Hospital about 9:45 am, got dressed partially in the rain, and arrived at Christian's room at 10am. He was VERY surprised and happy to see us. We had some MWG stickers and some other swag, along with a $25 visa card for him (the teachers at Pontiac got him a kindle fire, so he said he was going to use the gift card we gave him for some Star Wars books). We didn't stay long (probably only about 30 minutes) because he was working on homework and had surgery later that day, but it was posted in his online journal that he was really glad we came over to see him.
We did this troop last minute and neither Scott nor I had ever been to Cardinal Glennon, so we kept it a small troop for convenience.
In attendance:
Kristen Avara (Skypanda) TI-7844
Scott Holder (Firebat) TI-373
Also, we were able to talk with someone from community relations about doing more possible troops at the hospital. They seemed very excited!
