Crystal Lake’s Centennial Celebration Festival

You really couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day to troop outdoors; lots of sunshine and approximately 65° with a really nice breeze. The folks with the Festival were very generous and supplied us with a fantastic space on the beach with a canopy and table/chairs for us to set up our trading cards, temporary tattoo station and MSABC Donation Station.
We ended up with a nice number of costumes, and we needed someone to man the table at all times, so I decided not to suit up so I could take care of the table and put tattoos on the kids. I set up the table while the troops were getting suited up, all the while listening to many versions of Star Wars music that was being played through the overhead speakers. As Darth Vader emerged with a Stormtrooper and Death Star Gunner, they were immediately greeted by many small, very excited fans. Not too long after, 3 Tusken Raiders made their way out to the beach to play in the sand and even take in a magic show.
There was also a kite-flying area and carnival part the Festival that was happening across the parking lot, and Vader and his posse couldn’t resist going to check it all out.
About a half hour before our troop was over, The Bozo Show’s Wizzo and Cookie came over and requested a few shots with the Dark Lord. However, later Wizzo confessed to me that the Stormtrooper was his favorite “character” and asked our Trooper for a picture as well.
We didn’t do as well as I had hoped with the donation station, as we didn’t really have a lot of foot traffic through our area. But like we always say, every little bit helps!
