The Force Will Be With Chris. Always.
By Sakic Jade on Dec 12, 2016 at 5:14 PM.

The 501st Legion’s Midwest Garrison is saddened to learn of the passing of young Star Wars fan Chris F., a boy who touched us all through is strength and bravery.

In August of 2014, Chris was diagnosed with stage-4 neuroblastoma cancer. We rallied together and several troopers gathered at his bedside, so he could meet his favorite Star Wars characters in person. He was given toys, coloring books, Star Wars pamphlets, and a custom Midwest Garrison hat. But most importantly, he got a chance to forget about what he was going through, even if it was just for a few minutes.

The Midwest Garrison was honored to have been given the chance to meet Chris. We know his love for Star Wars was just as great as our own, and although our visit with him was short, he left a lasting impression not only on the troopers who were able to meet him, but in the hearts of everyone in our group. It was truly our privilege to meet him and all his family. Chris will be honored and remembered forever as one of our own. We extend our deepest condolences and a wish for peace to his family during these difficult times.

We remove our helmets and bow our heads in Chris's honor. You will be in our hearts forever, Chris, and the Force will be with you. Always.

Bad Guys Doing Good
By Sakic Jade on Oct 25, 2016 at 1:18 PM.

We want to share this experience with you, it's just a small part of one of our projects. Making a difference and spreading joy through our passion for Star Wars.

During our last visit to the Advocate Children's Hospital in Park Ridge on July 21st, 2016, The Midwest Garrison crew had the chance to meet Jesus. This young man's spirit and excitement was inspirational and we were very touched. We overheard his conversation with the nurse, of how much he wanted to be a Star Wars character for Halloween. After the troop, we discussed it and determined to make his wish a reality. Jesus was going to be a TIE Fighter Pilot for Halloween. We decided to give a TIE pilot costume, complete with a pair of TIE Fighter wings for his wheelchair so that he can feel like a true Imperial Pilot! We documented our work on his wings, so you can see the sort of work we do behind the scenes. Helping to make Jesus' wish come true is the latest adventure for the Bad Guys Doing Good!

It was a looooooooong journey, with a few obstacles but a fun one never the less, and the hard work paid off. Although we didn't get to spend time with Jesus (he was having a very rough day), we had an extremely positive reaction from the staff. They were amazed and very grateful for the project.

We want to thank everyone involved in Project Jesus, this could not have been done without their support.

We'd like to thank: Advocate Children's Hospital, for this opportunity and letting us make a difference. TD-4934 for not only donating the Tie Pilot kit but also for sending it assembled. DZ-12371, DZ-17761 and our TK in Training for stopping by the DysFUNktional's Asylum to help the build. To Shirley, TX-41574, 9173 and TK-604 for the financial help. TI-66598, TK-41551, TK-13132, SL-40782, TK-91583 for all the support bringing smiles to the young ones and their parents. And a HUGE thanks to IG-80870 for all the back and forth communication, keeping in touch with the hospital contact and ordering the costume soft parts.

If you care to be a part of our family and do special projects like this go to the 501st Legion Website and see how you can Join the Legion. http://databank.501st.com/databank/Membership:JoinUs

Joliet Library Star Wars Days 2016
By Sakic Jade on May 27, 2016 at 8:46 AM.

The Joliet Public Library Star Wars Day is now the worlds largest of event of its kind. Bringing together members of the 501st Legion, Rebel Legion, Mandalorian Mercs, and other Star Wars fan groups from many different states.

In 2010, it started as a simple Star Wars library event, with only a few members of the Midwest Garrison and Rebel Legion in attendance. 650 people with families and children came out and had a great time. It began as a way to get children interested in books again. With so many children reliant on tablets, cell phones, and computers, many have not been in a library in a long time or if ever. In 2014, we saw an estimated 115 members in costume, and approximately 7,000 people.

There is so much more going on as well. Meet Star Wars artists, collectors, and more. It is an event that is not to be missed.

This year, the event will be held on Saturday, June 4th.

Visit the official Facebook page of the event for more information. https://www.facebook.com/JPLStarWarsDay/?fref=ts
