Battery leakage burns reported by a TK-please read!

I copied and pasted this from a thread in the Trooper forums at the Rebel Legion...

I don't know if this has been brought up on the main 501st boards...
but am passing the following along:
Batteries next to your skin.

At a recent UKG troop at Game in the Merry Hill Ged Rodgers TK4184(UKG 501st) had one of his AA batteries spring a leak whilst trooping.

The location of his battery pack was in the back section of his TK, this caused the acid to leak onto his undersuit resulting in a very nasty burn to the flesh. What made matters worse was that he didn’t feel anything, the acid reacted that fast it burnt away the nerves in his back so he didn’t feel a thing.

Luckily for Ged we was due a rest for lunch so the problem was found fairly quickly.

The burn to his back is severe to say the least, below is a link to the photo for you to have a look, some might not like to see it so its your choice if you want to see it.

Id like to take this opportunity to remind everyone of the problem you could face if a battery leaks while your trooping, Id also like to urge members to consider where you mount your battery packs as this location is becoming a popular choice with helmeted members these days. Wherever you mount batteries this risk still stands but having them mounted in your back armour may result in the issue not been detected for a period of time.

My personal choice for mounting batteries is in the tube area of my helmet. Helmets are removed with ease during breaks so any problems could potentially be detected sooner rather than later. Having said all of the above this is the first time in many years Ive seen a battery leak - let alone damage the skin like this.

Id also like to ask our members who are here who costume with other groups to pass this information on so that we al know the potential risks. Can I ask that when this information is passed on to other clubs that you let me know by posting here or by PM, so that I can contact CO’s and XO’s of other clubs if the information hasn’t been passed on.

That looks painful and horrible......

I will check batteries from now on so as to not get burned!

Yeah I saw this too on the legion boards.

The trooper was reported to be doing fine, but it's amazing that he didn't feel it until AFTER they removed the armor from him. NASTY stuff that battery acid.

The best thing to do is make sure you match your power supply with the device requirements.

Many of us use a 9volt to power fans that require 12volts. This ends up with the batteries overheating which can lead to failure and leakage.

Check your power set ups and make the appropriate changes.
