Shoulder bells! Attachments that work

Post by TK895 »

I went the snap route on mine. I also did it before anyone suggested putting the snaps on a piece of abs and the cementing them to the straps.

This is the snap pliers and snaps that I use. I found these at Minnesota Fabrics.

<img src="http://www.midwestgarrison.com/mods/sna ...

The next three show how I attached the straps.

<img src="http://www.midwestgarrison.com/mods/sho ...
<img src="http://www.midwestgarrison.com/mods/sho ...
<img src="http://www.midwestgarrison.com/mods/sho ...

I used black elastic in place of the velcro. It gives the bells some room to move as you do. The female portion of the snap is attached to the shoulder strap. The male portion is attached through one end of the elastic.

The other end is attached to the bell by a female snap only, leaving the male portion to be attached to another piece of elastic on the bicep.

I found that the snap on the shoulder strap still could come loose, so I put a bit of hot glue inside before attaching the two halves of the snap.

Keep in mind that you do have to drill a small hole for the snap to go through to be able to crimp on the other side.

Questions?

TK895
Midwest Garrison Commander of the 501st Legion
Chicagoland Replica Prop Guild

I plan on going the route of using spare ABS to mount the snaps to. Then from there gluing them to the inside of the armor. You won't see any snaps on the outside, keeping it clean and neat. A few of the Midwest Troopers have done this and it works well. I think one of them has even just glued the snaps directly to the inside of his armor!
An added benefit is that another piece of ABS to the shoulder straps will act as reinforcements.

Now I just need to work up the courage to separate the cod-piece. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /laugh.gif ALT=":lol">

"You know, sometimes I amaze even myself." JUST DO IT!

I have taken the plung and separated the cod piece. And I have to say, It makes the armor a bit more comfortable to wear. Not to mention give you a bit more movement and A MUCH EASIER way to "Take care of buisness" than having to take the entire thing off!

"Who is this? I crazy glued the velcro to the respective armor pieces, then glued the velcro together. So far, It's working out well.
"... Only Imperial Storm Troopers are so precise." - Ben Kenobi

ok I am going the snap route...but on the shoulder straps I can't get the snap to attach because the shaft on the button end isn't long enough...do they make snaps with longer shafts? if not how do you get around this?

oopppss this is TK 1820...my rebel wife was still logged on
Can't sleep, Jawas will eat me...
Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub5.ezboard.com/uairickuh.showP ... irickuh at: 5/7/01 11:53:09 pm

ok...when doing the shoulder strap snap attachment either the moulding on my must be deeper than yours or my snaps are smaller...but I found a good solution ...I pop riveted mine on and it works great...I just have to paint the rivet head.

Shawn
Shawn Mahood,TK/TD 1820,Garrison Titan XO,Tour of Duty:,Pacific Science Center "Astronomy Days 2001"
