IL-Chicago/60611-Lurie Children’s Hospital-Sat 11/10/12
What an amazing troop! A great set of people and a wonderful place to visit!
As I've said in my original post, this one really had a lot of meaning for me as it was a troop I've been dreaming about for quite some time now! I couldn't have been more pleased with the result!
We all arrived about 1 PM and were brought to a conference room to store our stuff and change. The troop started at 2:30 PM and initially there wasn't many kids in the Life Center. As the visit progressed, several volunteers were able to invite several families from the floor to come down for some pictures and fun!
After the initial pictures we were all able to have some fun with the kids and join them in activities such as board games, puzzles and just generally running around and playing with them. It was an absolute pleasure to see Darth and Chewie having a tea party with a little girl or Han, Leia, Boba Fett and a Biker Scout all playing Sorry at a table with tiny chairs! I also joined in the festivities by working on a puzzle with a brilliant young man named Tyreese which was made even funnier when I attempted to sit in those tiny chairs (A true feat in TK) while being made fun of from behind by a Tie Pilot!
Overall a truly successful troop! I do feel that although I did my best to prep the Hospital coordinators as to who we were, I think they didn't really understand what they were getting until they saw us! They were blown away! I'm sure we will be visiting there again really soon and I'm positive that the next troop there will be even bigger and better than this one was!
I can't thank the participants enough, including much respect and love toward the Rebel Legion/Nar Shaddaa base who were so nice to join us!! We had some of the best costumes the Legion has to offer and the folks that came really made a difference in the lives of those kids and families we touched that day! I am in awe of all of you for the kindness, humility and charity you all displayed that day!
We didn't accept any donations for anything but Dan and Steff Moriarty and Steve Dembo all brought bags of Star Wars toys to give away and we all brought cards, Legion activity books and tattoos for the kids. I was also informed that Steve Mammen and Jim Tampa have made a donation to the Family Life Center in the name of Wheatlands Elementary School. I will inform the hospital of this right away.
Participants:
Carlos Mendoza - TK 5924 - Stormtrooper (coordinator)
Brian Troyan - TK 8968 - Han Solo (ANH)
Janine Jender - TI 4838 - Princess Leia (ANH)
Steve Szyndrowski - ID 3052 - Darth Vader (Ep III)
Steve Dembo - TI 9526 - Tie Pilot
Dan Moriarity - BH 9039 - Boba Fett
Steff Moriarity - TB 9038 - Biker Scout
Bob Kohn - YT1300 - Chewbacca
Thanks to all for a wonderful troop!!!!!

Absolutely AWESOME! I'm sorry I couldn't make this one. I would've never made Max's event on time last night if I would've trooped the hospital too. Hopefully I'll make the next one!

Absolutely fantastic....
Will hold off making a charity report till we have a link to Photobucket photos..
Also wished I could have made it...but duty called me elsewhere as well...
I was obviously sad to miss an event with a good number of NSB members...but...you had some of the best of what Nar Shaddaa has to offer with Chewie and Princess Leia...
GREAT to also see Stef in her Scout (and of course Dan)....glad that she held on to her costume....

It was an honor to be a part of this troop and to get the chance to be Vader. I'll never forget having a tea party with that little girl. This type of troop makes sweating in a leather bodysuit worth it.
HUGE thanks to the Bob for coming down anne to Carlos for heading up this amazing troop and oportunity,
Steve

I had to edit the title of the MWG Photobucket album for this event, since the date wasn't properly formatted. By keeping to the standard format, our events will stay in chronological order in the album listing.

Unfortunately, now that you have changed the title of the album..Fleetfang wrote:I had to edit the title of the MWG Photobucket album for this event, since the date wasn't properly formatted. By keeping to the standard format, our events will stay in chronological order in the album listing.

Re: IL-Chicago/60611-Lurie Children’s Hospital-Sat 11/10/12
I'm sorry about that, Phyllis. I've tried to make it clear why it's important to properly label the albums for the archive, and I think with dozens of albums properly set up, the format should be clear enough. (Perhaps I need to add some place-holder dates for the oldest event albums there, since they might be throwing people off.) I do always offer to field questions if anyone is unsure about the format when starting a new album over there, too. Whenever the name is formatted incorrectly, I change it as quickly as I can to try to minimize the number of links that will be "killed" when the album name is inevitably changed, but this was the first time that I spotted it. I can't be everywhere all of the time.
Is there anyone on the Charity Blog staff that can edit the post at your request and update the link?
