From the sands of Bloomington
I've been lurking here for awhile and thought it's about time I made a post.
I'm John. I'm 32 and currently reside in Bloomington.
After meeting a few members, I decided that I'd like to do this. It's a good way to geek out, help raise money for great causes, and create a bit of magic for kids.
I have not yet totally completed my costume, but I did have it on for halloween. I hope to be finished with it soon and submit it for approval.
Here I am with my wife, a friend, and her baby

Looking good, raider! Always great to see new members eager to join up.
We've got some great troopers in central Illinois that you'll have a great time trooping with once you're set.
Good luck with completing everything, and hope you finish your costume soon!

Another member-to-be in central Illinois! Welcome John.
We'll be gift wrapping for our Relay for Life team, which takes place near Bloomington, at Barnes and Noble this Saturday. Maybe you could make it over. Here's the event thread:

Hope to troop with you soon.

I'm working on the hand wraps for my Tusken now. Lap is covered in frayed fabric! lol
Good luck on the build. Always great to see potential new members!

Psst! Chip! The event link you provided for John leads to a members-only forum that he doesn't have access to yet.

Glad to see you on here and continuing your build. Were you at one of the zoo events out of costume?

Definitely couldn't have done it without you.
Hit me up sometime. I'd like to pick your brain a bit on weathering. Luckily I have a big spot of sand in the back yard where the pool was, so weathering shouldnt be too hard

Re: From the sands of Bloomington
My niece tried on the mask when I went down for thanksgiving. She looked so cute when she looked down.. like a sad little tusken.
I just had to share it.

That is Adorable,. I have a question, do you find having the neck/shoulders
attached to the headpiece restrictive with movement, I'm starting a new build and am experimenting with ideas and the neck does look cool, I'm don't like the lack of neck ones and this one all the way to the shoulders is pretty cool

Re: From the sands of Bloomington
I have to turn my upper body to look side to side, but because it is on my shoulders, it does allow me to turn my head in the mask a bit. The nice thing about this is that I dont have to use a neck wrapCoin wrote:That is Adorable,. I have a question, do you find having the neck/shoulders

Thanks! It has improved quite a bit from there. Overall I am happy with it, but I still have some more changes I want to make till it is perfect for meTK24602 wrote:Thats a great setup you got there. Very well done!
Re: From the sands of Bloomington
scrapin,
Remember that, with a good pair of scissors, you can trim as much or as little of that as you need to.
All the way up to the jaw line, if you wanted to.
I've seen some cut it back to create a "V-Neck" and others who have trimmed it in a circle, around the bottom of the neck, and then added a few vertical slits.
(and of course others who have left it as is)
