Recently, a guy working on building Scout armor stopped by the Endor Commando forums at the Rebel Legion looking for an Endor Commando rank badge. He
stated that the greeblie from the thermal det on the back of a Biker Scout was the Endor Commando rank badge cut in half.

Obviously, since I never made a Biker Scout costume, I had not paid much attention...

anyway...

this is a photo of one of the actual Endor Commando costumes at one of Lucasfilm's displays....

Image

so...in theory...the Scout greeblie is the left half of the badge in the photo above.

I do have a sculpt of the Endor Rank Badge....and had been considering re-making it because it is NOT accurate. Since it was not accurate, I would not sell one of the rank badges to the guy making the Scout as I felt I would be doing him a disservice...
however...
in poking around I have come to the conclusion that almost every Scout costume I have seen (both in person the last couple weeks and via images sent to me by Brian and Mark Berry) it would appear that everyone one makes their own? And they are all different?

So....since I have decided to re-make the Endor Commando rank badge, I would like to make a sculpt for the Scout Greeblie as well.....

BUT
a couple of questions.

First:
Does anyone at the 501st offer this greeblie for sale?

Second:
would members here who do have a Biker Scout costume, please send me a photo of their thermal det?

This is some of the things I have learned so far....that the height of the greeblie is about 3cm to fit in the depressed area in the thermal det.

In theory....this is a photo of an actual Biker Scout greeblie that was taken also at an exhibit of the costume:

So....
I have begun work:

the white pieces in the photo are my current Endor rank badge...I have gotten farther and will update with some additional photos...

anyway...

thoughts?
is the information I am working with accurate?
Please send me photos of your greeblie

and...
if one of you would be so kind as to maybe copy and paste this at the Pathfinder detachment to see if anyone there would like to comment...or send photos...

I had to find some time to do some investigating, but there's a long discussion on BSN about the greeblies already. Looks like Far Away Creations (MonCal) did a great deal of research and work on it this past January. I'll go ahead and repost your thread over there, but I have a feeling people are just going to link me over to that other thread. (http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?s ... nator&st=0)

Long story short, here's what MonCal came up with:
MonCal wrote: I finally had some time to take pics of the new greeblies we are including.

I could benefit from a new camera but it's o.k. :) :

We tightened up the pull on the detonator box so it sits nice and flat:

Thanks again Brian....I had a feeling that someone from the 501st MUST have made one of these and that is why I didn't sell the guy looking for a greeblie one of the Endor Badges to cut in half- I didn't want to step on toes of someone who had already had done the homework. He insisted that no one made them...
I will still plan on finishing my version just because I am re-doing the Endor Commando Rank Badge anyway...
and I wanted something to show how to mold and cast for a couple people that are interested in that process...

thank you VERY much again Brian....

Happy to help, Phyllis. :)
If you do finish your sculpt, maybe the MWG scouts could convince you to break a few of those commando badges in half to fix our detonators. I honestly don't know if any of the local bikers have the right greeblie, to be honest. Most of us are like Whinter, with just a few black squares stuck into that place...
And hey, if my money is going somewhere, I'd rather see it stay close to home, rather than going to the armorer who has his own dedicated "Is MonCal MIA?" Thread on the Legion boards.

I am going to finish the Scout greeblie I started - the 1/2 piece...

I am going to make both sculpts and make 2 separate molds
...the Endor Commando and the Scout only...

and will happily cast a bunch of "Scout only" greeblies...

Not a problem...
I still have to finish the sculpt...

honestly...
after looking at about 4 examples of what they are supposed to look like...I am going to have to kinda make a hybrid...
and I already started to re-work the one I had made based on all of the different examples (including the "real" Endor Commando rank badge)....

once the sculpt is finished to my liking...
then I will make a mold...
and can then cast some...

probably a month off yet...

onward...

I will continue to post photos so you guys can add critique....

honestly though...
some of this stuff is so small that my poor arthritic fingers are sensing their limits..

here we are so far....with more primer drying...

Image

I have a critical tiny piece glued to another tiny piece that is drying...

sigh...a lot of time is spent waiting for glue and paint to dry...

I was about to cross post your update and bring things back from over there, but it looks like you've already been active on that thread now, Phyllis. :) Keep up the good work!

Well...here it is so far...I still have to clean up with some wetsanding....
then it will be ready to mold up...

Image

It is really difficult to work on things that are this tiny....

I also decided to finally try my hand at 360 degree molds...

starting small..

it is a two step process

WOW!! lol....after all of the hours I spent on this...there is one "out there"..

Oh well...I still plan on finishing mine...
I am ready to mold it....

I did go to my library yesterday because they have a 3D printer there...
I brought the Biker Scout piece I made along with me.....and spoke to the "tech dude" in charge of the 3D project at the Library...
first he looked at my piece and said that they don't have a scanner capable of scanning the piece with enough detail to reproduce it...

he then went on about some other considerations...
not being a big tech person....most of it went over my head...

so...
back to the mold and cast process..

:D

Ok...so I cast up about a dozen of the Scout greeblies...
and as noted on FB...I will be giving these away to MWG members...

Image

I will be attending the Thanksgiving Day Parade...and the Toy Con event...
so...
if any Scouts will be attending those events and want a greeblie...lmk and I will bring that many along..

Jim Lawver...or Mark B....

If either of you would want to be point man for our members further South..if you can check with the Biker Scouts in your area if they are in need of one of these...and I can mail that many to one of you to pass out...
I HATE going to the Post Office...so I will try to do this as painless as possible..

:D
