Sewing and altering clothes for costumes

I'm getting ready to start my build. I have modest sewing skills. (I can sew straight lines and basic shapes.) I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions on books on either basic sewing, sewing specific to costuming, or on making alterations (like changing a collar to a different type) to clothing for costuming.

Best things to do is search on YouTube and cruise the web. There are a ton of resources online for sure. That and just dive into it, you're going to mess things up sometimes, but you'll learn quick and have a ton of fun!
