MI-Grandville-Wisemen's Corner Grocery Kid's Day 8/18/07

Post by NoslenLRac »

Wiseman's Corner Grocery Store Kid's Day
3001 28th St. SW, Grandville, MI 49418
August 18, 12-2pm

Family owned and operated grocery store celebrating their new location and design change. They had made contact through the 501st site via a suggestion by one of their customers. John Blizzard asked me to coordinate as I live in Grandville. I loaned them some cardboard standees to use to promote the event. They also had flyers with pics they got off the 501st site.

Troopers attending:
Carl Nelson - 2275 - Royal Guard
Dave Raimondo - 8789 - Biker Scout
Richard Bishop - 6026 - Clone Trooper
Robert Amid - 2125 - Tie Pilot
Phil Font - 654 - Darth Vader

Rebel Legion:
Scott Scharke - Jedi/Qui-Gon Jinn

Most of the children's activities were outside, so that was where we spent most of our time. Grandville Fire Department had a fire truck on display. They had a 40 foot inflatible slide (Robert took a slide in his Tie Pilot uniform and we have the video to prove it), chalk drawing (Robert did a nice Tie), face painting (my daughter got a nice Royal Guard painted in honor of her dad), balloons (courtesy of Blizz), plus free food.

The temperature was in the mid 70's, but many of us went inside to partake of the walk-in cooler and to entertain the adults who were there to shop.

Both the Wisemen's staff and us were surprised by the turnout. I still have yet to hear how business went for them that day.

We were able to pass out tatoos and stickers, as well as our contact business cards. We had a lot of interest, including a local Scout troop who may contact us for their Memorial Day cookout (they're planning ribs!).

The store's staff have not yet decided which charity to donate to, yet. They are hoping to donate to a local charity, as they are a local grocery. I'll add that post when the let me know what they did.

A great thanks to all. Wisemen's was very happy with the turnout and our appearance.
