The Master Chief (dial up beware, pic intensive)

Post by Darth Favre »

Well ever since I first played Halo, I have wanted the armor. I was extremely lucky and came across this set and so my dream (or is a nightmare now) begins. I'll try and keep the progress photos coming, that will help keep me motivated to finish it before my 3 year old graduates from high school. The helmet was assembled, and painted purple for a previous owners wife. Well that just won't do for me, so a box of sandpaper later and we have this.

I kinda like the purple. Are you going for the average green look?

Greg,

Invest is a decent D/A sander...........

save your hands....and a boatload of time.

Stuff looks bad ass when it's done up right.

Whats a D/A Sander. Sounds better than the H/A/N/D sander I have been using.

And yes, going for the "average" green.

Sounds like my house

I’ve been thinking more and more of doing a MC costume but with a TK waiting to be assembled in a box that idea will have to wait :D

Nice find!

Let’s face it; being tracked down by the empire is far more fun for a 5yo than looking at props behind glass.

Well I decided to start with the boots and work my up, at least for now.
I sanded and trimmed all the parts and layed them out on my combat boots to see how they will work. Looks like I will be adding a bit of foam or something else in between the boot and the armor in several areas.

Great Stuff

Post by Targ »

I understand the foam but has anyone attempted using Great Stuff to the back and then just cut what you don't want to show with a hacksaw? I am thinking of doing this with a pair of Rebel Endor helmets. Just wondering if anyone has given it a try.

I did think of the great stuff foam but am worried about snow, ice and water being absorbed since it is the feet. I'm thinking of buying some cheap flip flops and cut them to the right size pieces for the gaps. Yea I got the ankles, but he sent me back the same old lens, so I'll figure out something else I guess. Whats a good place to pick up ABS?

There are a couple of plastics suppliers in the area. Total Plastic is off of Higgins Road in Elk Grove Village. There is also a supplier in Streamwood.

Hmm, well I'm in WI and I'm not sure where those places are. Do you know about what a sheet would run, and how big a sheet we are talking about?

Well I got the first couple layers of paint done. First the primer and then the chrome underlayer.

Let me know what you will need and I can check my resources Monday or Wednesday. Do you need a particular color? Double smooth? Thickness? I generally deal with USPLastic.com but Total has been very good about helping.

I just need some plastic to have behind the armor seams for the seamless work. It doesn't matter what color, and as for thickness just needs to be strong enough to support the armor.
