We were invited to help participate with Paul Gardener and his team in the Glen Ellyn Cardboard Regatta. He and his team made a Star Destoyer this year. We arrived around 9 in the morning to scope things out. Paul had secured a shaded base camp for us. It was a very hot and humid day. At around 10:30 is was time to get suited up. Once dressed and walking to our base the people started to swarm to our camp. We took lots of photos with everyone who wanted one and lots of photos of us on the boat. at 12:15/12:30 it was time to for us to escort the Destroyer to the lake for it's first race. We found a good spot to watch the race and started to cheer the dark side once they started. It was a close race for a little bit but of course you can not beat the dark side for too long. Half way through it started to pull away and blow the other two boats out of the water. After the races we said our good byes and got suited down. It was a relief to get out of armor. We decided to grab a bite at a place Paul recommended in town which was great to cool off in. Paul did make a donation to the Shriner's Hospital for $500.00. I'm not sure what place they came in the other races and I'm waiting to hear back to found out. I will post when I know it.

Got this email from Paul today.
We did win the speed award and got a trophy for that. We didn't win any other awards, kind of disappointed by that. They didn't really seem to hand out many more. They gave the lego police boat the 'Queen of the Lake' award, and the best costume to the Batmobile kids. We expected you to have some acknowledgement of your presence there. If you are ever in GLen Ellyn, Trader Joe's puts regatta pictures on its wall. Hopefully you will make the Trader Joe's wall. That seems to get a lot of attention through out the year.
I made a $500 donation to the Shriners Chicago area hospital. You should receive an email confirmation of that today. Thank you guys so much for coming out, you really made our day
