Having arrived at the main offices at the Elfstrom (now 5/3rd Bank) Stadium, we were ushered upstairs to our suite to change in. This was a huge upgrade from where we were changing in the past with Ozzie! Emmet, from the Kane County Cougars, welcomed us and had one of his assistants, Shawn, give us the run-down of the night's events. Our first request was to either lead or join in the Star Wars costume parade . . . which was quite confusing as there were in all actuality two parades back-to-back: Ozzie's Reading Program and then the Star Wars Costume parade. Quickly following that were the first pitch throws. Having practiced this with Emmet earlier, the Vader's floating pitch went *ahem* fairly well. The ball, attached to a fishing line, started off slowly and then got stuck halfway down. Thanks to Ozzie's quick thinking, he jogged up to it and gave it a whack with his lightsaber sending it down the rest of the way! After this was done, the umpires and team managers had their meeting at home plate where we escorted each manager back to their dugout. Then it was up to the main concourse for some fan interaction and photos!
In between the 2nd and 3rd innings, Ozzie had his race with one youngling around the bases where troopers at 3rd were waiting to impede the Jedi Ozzie's progress and let the kid go for the win at home plate.
There were a lot of kids at this game, and many were quite assertive with their lightsabers, especially with TKs for some reason. Fortunately, these were only Padawan learners with training sabers, and no injuries were sustained. From personal experience, many of the younglings I encountered were more awestruck and frightened by the Dark Lord of the Sith, although quite a few autographs were signed both on baseballs and on t-shirts. After a while of posing for photos, Emmet found me and took me aside for a break at the main office. Along the way, there came up a couple of women and one of their sons who was looking forward to meeting me. This young boy had autism, and came prepared to do battle with Darth Vader. We had an impromptu lightsaber battle, and afterwards, Emmet had told me that this was his dream come true and was practically in tears of joy. A good battle indeed, and we were evenly matched to a draw.
Needless to say, after this were more photo ops and more autographs until about the 5th inning where we finally suited down to a chilled evening to watch the Cougars play against the Chiefs as they caught up to tie it up in the top of the 9th (3 to 3). It wasn't until a spectacular hit made by the Cougars in the bottom of the 9th with a pop fly to center left that brought in the runner at 3rd to win the game for the Cougars. It was like they just won the series with the celebration that ensued after. Not only were there fireworks to indicate a victory by the Cougars, but shortly afterwards a truly impressive fireworks show followed set to the music of Star Wars.
In short, a Star Wars Night + Cougars win = Enormous fun for everyone! Thanks to all those who made it out!

You're telling me! It was really awesome to see so many TKs at one event like this. And the only charitable donation was made on our part with our time and talents. I believe we may have spent a total of 3 hours or so in costume. <shrugs>Schph Gochi wrote:wow...

We'll do it again though on 9/1/12!!!
