Il-Wheaton/60189-Cantigny Toys for Tots-Sat&Sun-12/14-12/15

The Northern Illinois Lego Train Builders Club, Cantigny Park, Lego accessories suppliers, and the United States Marines once again accompanied the Midwest Garrison on a snowy but beautiful weekend in December to support the Toys for Tots program. Image
Although admission was free, if anyone brought an unwrapped toy to donate, their parking fee was waved. The donation boxes needed emptying several times throughout the day.
The main attraction was the Lego train displays. These people have imagination beyond belief. They create displays and dioramas spanning several hundred square feet.Image Image Image This is a must see for any Lego fan. Lego fans by the hundreds came to Cantigny to marvel at the displays but received a pleasant surprise by the presence of their favorite Star Wars characters. ImageImageImage Image ImageImage
A few people became overwhelmed by the excitement and needed to be "managed" by the Imperial patrolImage All that work gives even the seasoned trooper an appetite. Cantigny staff were more than willing to "DONATE" cookies to the cause. Image RFT Schulte didn't take too kindly to this act and did some influencing of her own. Image
On Saturday, many braved the snow to venture out. A few troopers wanted to enjoy Cantigny from the outside but needed to know where to go. They sure didn't get any help from these guys.Image To a desert born Tusken Raider, the snow is very interesting stuff. Unlike sand, you can form this into your own likeness.ImageImage Troopers Whitaker and Werner kept watch to make sure the wily Tusken didn't get out of hand.Image ImageThe "Tusken angel" is becoming a winter staple Image
The REAL hero out of all this was Unites States Marine Corps Representative Javier Martinez Image It was an honor to serve beside this American hero collecting donations for Toys for TotsImage Marine Rep Martinez also presented our Garrison Commanding Officer Brian Troyan with a plaque which thanked the Midwest Garrison/501st Legion for their participation.ImageImage
Despite the snow and cold temperatures, it was a successful, two day mission. I would say that we "ROCKED" this one!!!!!Image Did future trooper Troyan agree?Image
Attending troopers: Please record T.O.D. as two separate troops.

If by some chance you get a total of either $$ or # of toys collected...I would love to add to the Charity blog...
if not..
that's ok too...it is a great event for a great cause no matter what.

Thank you for organizing this event again Steve...

I will call over there tomorrow but I seriously doubt they keep track of that. I am sure they just deliver the toys to a larger distributor. I can tell you that we had troopers in uniform from 9-2:30 both days. That's 5.5 hours X 18 troopers

Will hold off...if nothing else I will submit to Charity blog with just the hours....
I am sure that they really don't count the stuff (who knows...maybe they do just for press release purposes to see if the events grow or not)
...and it's a long shot...
but don't hurt to ask..

FYI: I did hear one of the workers telling Javier that they have to count all of the toys before dropping them off. We may be able to get a count of the toys donated.

Merry Christmas!
