IL-Bartlett - 4th of July Parade - Sun. 7/6/14

Post by TK118 »

MISSION REPORT – Bartlett Parade 2014

The day started with the threat of rain. Despite dark clouds and cool temps, it cleared up and ended up being a great day. The day was warm but nearly as hot as in years past.

At 8am Jody had already gotten to the base camp as well as a few others. We got the first tent up, then second and finally the third and base camp was set up by 8:30.

A HUGE THANKS to Cathy Tomczak, who not only shuttled people, but did a run to the store, passed out marshmallows and helped keep the troops hydrated during the parade. She REALLLY went above and beyond to help.

The trooped all got to the staging area thanks to Rick, Steve, Mark and Cathy. Everyone got suited up. We got our group photo done  LOOKS GREAT and got ready to step off.

This year we decided to but the Rebels up front. Its time they got top billing, and they will be up front again in 2015 !
Speaking of Rebels … WOW what a great group! Especially and his son made a great pair piloting the snub nose fighter who tossed out marshmallows during his flight! AMAZING!!!

We started and had a great parade. We passed out over 2000 bags of marshmallows that were once again donated by Campfire Marshmallows! Many thanks to seasoned troopers who managed to make the marshmallows last until to the end of the parade!

As we passed the viewing stand it was announced that we were again their favorite part of the parade!

Many CONGRATULATONS Ito Chip Childress for being only the 3rd Vader to walk the entire parade!

For those who don’t know, every year we have had a different member to be Darth Vader in the parade. For 2015 I am going to ask Arron to be Vader!

We had several people bring food and had a nice picnic. After we ate, there was a short garrison meeting during which Brian went over some things that were happening in the MWG and the rest of the Legion. Please contact Brian if you have any further questions about the topics covered.

The Lions club, who puts on the parade, were great as always. Because of our popularity we continue to hold our #2 place in the parade, just after the politicians. We were reminded that we will ALWAYS have a place in this parade even if we just show up on day of parade without filling out a application. The Lions Club is once again giving the MWG a check to be used as a charitable donation. This year, as last year, the donation will go to the Ride For Kids charity Ride Tom Schaefer TK118 is doing on July 20th. Also new this year, Tom had created a T-Shirt to bring awareness to Children’s Pediatric Brain Cancer. For a $5 donation you too can own one of these shirts. Just contact him.

TSHIRTS are STILL available! Contact Tom Schaefer TK118 for details! LIMITED NUMBER available.. Sizes large and Extra large.

A BIG thank you to Phil Cline who allowed Tom to borrow his biker gear so he could ride my motorcycle in the parade again this year.

Big thank you to Targ for bringing Skull One and sound system, To Whinter for once again piloting the medical frigate, to all those who helped pass out marshmallows, set up base camp, take photos, and help with all the other things that need to happen to make the parade work! It’s because of EVERYONE that this is the huge event it is. !

This was a HUGE success and will be again next year. But I will be planning this MUCH sooner next year and asking for more help. And while we will do this parade every year.. Tom is hoping to do something BIG for our 15th consecutive year at the parade in 2017 So PLAN on being a part of this parade every year!

Here are the participants that signed in this year…. Hope to see more next year 

Missed the "sweat-fest" this year...
but
you guys pulled it off as always...

make sure to post the donation totals when you have them...
and...

since I know that the $$ donated by the Lions (and the shirts) is earmarked for your Children’s Pediatric Brain Cancer ride... let me know how you want the donation reported...
as the Bartlett Parade...
or as the Children’s Pediatric Brain Cancer event when it is completed.
